Wario Interrupts is a Challenge mode in WarioWare Gold. It is hosted by Wario Deluxe and involves the player playing microgames while evading distractions.

Gameplay

The Challenge stage takes place in the same setting as Wario Deluxe's Anything Goes stage. At the start of the game and after every three microgames, Wario Deluxe will unleash a distraction to block with or mess with the microgames. The goal is to play as many microgames as possible while facing the distractions. Microgames are played on the lowest difficulty level only. Speed-ups happen gradually every five microgames without warning. Wario Deluxe is shown on the Top Screen, while every microgame occurs on the Touch Screen.

After each microgame, the Hero Button in the bottom-right corner of the screen fills up slightly. Once full, Lulu starts speaking for every microgame. Tapping the Hero Button summons Lulu, who clears the current distraction, resetting the Hero Button. If the next distraction was one or two microgames away, including the currently played one, that interval is skipped and all further intervals are moved one microgame ahead.

The following distractions can occur:

  • Wario Deluxe turns the touch screen upside-down.
  • Wario Deluxe reverses the Touch Screen's colors.
  • Wario Deluxe replaces all sounds in microgames with the Baby Face's signature sound effect.
  • Wario Deluxe hides the guide depicting the inputs of each microgame, similar to his Anything Goes stage in Story mode.
  • Wario Deluxe blocks the screen with one or three Tiny Wario heads, which are attached to balloons on the Top Screen. The balloons can be popped by mashing one of A Button or a direction on the +Control Pad, causing the head to fall away. The relevant button is displayed on the balloon. This prevents microgames with the Mash control type from appearing until the distraction is cleared. Similarly, it prevents microgames with the Twist control type that use the A Button button from appearing if one of the balloons has that button.
  • Wario Deluxe farts three times in a row, blocking the screen with noxious gas. It can be blown away by blowing into Microphone, in turn preventing microgames with the Mic control type from appearing until the distraction is cleared.
  • Wario Deluxe blocks the screen with two paint blobs, which can be wiped off using Stylus. This prevents microgames with the Touch control type from appearing until the distraction is cleared.
  • Wario Deluxe shrinks the Touch Screen.
  • Wario Deluxe blocks the screen with a glass full of wine, which can be removed by tilting the system to the far left or right. This prevents microgames using Twist inputs from appearing until the distraction is cleared.
  • Wario Deluxe randomly increases or decreases the microgame speed.
