♥s[1] are the collectible points in Yoshi's Story. They are symbols of happiness and are essential to improving a Yoshi's mood. They also recover petals on a Yoshi's Smile Meter. ♥s are earned by eating fruit, defeating enemies, and collecting coins. Eating a Lucky Fruit earns the player eight ♥s, while eating a Favorite Fruit earns them three ♥s. Additionally, 100 extra ♥s apiece are awarded for each melon eaten, for each Special Heart collected, and for each Baby Yoshi that survived the current stage.
