When the Switch 2 team is talking about the specs, they show additional footage of Mario Kart World, such as Mario going across a body of water with Ty-Foos. The only way that the order of the cups as given here is not the actual order in the GPs is if the setups used to demo the GPs don't actually present content from the GP mode (and just random VS races, I suppose?), but at that point we might as well discount anything else we see from these demos. :::Why would using screen recordings of an official event not be a valid source? It's showing off footage of the game, held at an official event, with permission by Nintendo to film at the event. If "fan made videos" were not a valid source, then stuff like tons of documentation on glitches would also be invalid. Any screenshots or videos on this wiki that were created by wiki editors to document levels, enemies, etc are also "fan made," should these also be removed? If we only ever were allowed to use Nintendo sources, then this wiki would be immensely empty and, for example, we wouldn't be able to document most endgame or postgame elements of games (like the last few secret levels of Mario Wonder), since any source for them would be "fan made." :I assume the reasoning here is to prefer renders wherever possible. In my eyes, wanting to use the default outfit for a character feels akin to wanting them represented on the Standard Kart: certainly sensible for consistency, and in a perfect world where every setup had a render, it would be preferred. But only some of these have renders, and so the highest-quality artwork (and also the artwork that was chosen by Nintendo to be representative of the game, since they created those renders and featured them on the boxart and website) was used. | |||
:As for why some characters don't use their renders from the key art, those don't seem to have been released in an isolated form and would need to be cropped from the key art, which would mean a lot of overlap with other characters, and they wouldn't be shown in full. In those cases, a cropped gameplay screenshot generally seems to be showing the characters more completely. I assume once the game gets closer to release, we'll get more renders, and once it's out, we can take more consistent screenshot (i.e. just using the character select screen for everyone, or something). Move to "Untitled Mario Kart game"?
The game doesn't have a confirmed title, and the current one used for this article sounds as if it's an official name since it uses a similar title format as Luigi's Mansion (Nintendo 3DS) and Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch). Princess Peach: Showtime!, for example, went by "Untitled Princess Peach game" before its reveal, so why should this game be an exception? "Untitled Mario Kart game" summarises the article's topic much more accurately in my opinion. Yours truly, RetroNintendo2008. 10:42, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- I forgot that's the name we gave to Showtime! I was going for what we used to name untitled games years ago on the wiki like Paper Mario (Nintendo 3DS) for Sticker Star.
Mario JC 11:26, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- I've moved it back, because Mario Kart (Nintendo Switch 2) is a far more descriptive title that people are more likely to search for (especially since in order to find this game on this wiki you have to type "Untitled" on the search bar). We've really used untitled for the Peach game just because it's an entirely new series/game so we can't 100% be sure for the title of that game, but this game off the bat is part of a series and we know "Mario Kart" will be part of it.

I saw Bowser Jr. on the trailer
During the last section of the reveal, Bowser Jr. seems to be behind Baby Rosalina. I also think that Shy Guy is not seen playable, but due to an NPC Shy Guy appearing very close to King Boo on the distance, it gives the illusion that Shy Guy is there. --Tiixi (talk) 13:09, January 16, 2025 (EST)
if you go frame by frame in the video you can see the shy guy follow behind king boo, suggesting they're also a playable character Golddude64 (talk) 14:36, February 10, 2025 (EST)
Donkey Kong design
Currently, the page says that Donkey Kong's design in this game is based on how he looks in the The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is misleading since the design here is clearly just based on how Shigehisa Nakaue has always drawn DK, including in concept art for the movie itself which is why he had that design in the movie in the first place. Magma. (talk) 13:15, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- That does make sense. Nakaue's artstyle is also the basis for the in-game artstyle for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which people immediately caught, but that game didn't have DK in it, so this might be the first time Nakaue's Donkey Kong is translated into 3D; no way people would recognize that right away.
rend (talk) (edits) 14:37, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- There might be cause for people adding it, Way back in the second direct for the film, this design was hyped up as a "new design". And I quote, "We've also changed his design for the first time since he became a 3D model in the original Donkey Kong Country game" (4:52). So we'd also have to call a direct statement from Nintendo balderdash, when we do take Nintendo at their word for which games are in the Super Mario series. There may be cause to do exactly this, but I'm a non-artist so I can't pass judgement. Salmancer (talk) 17:19, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- I was gonna say that maybe not because of how people thought several moments in Brothership were references to The Super Mario Bros. Movie that were not but if Nintendo says it's a new design, then we shouldn't be saying it's not because we don't think it's not. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 21:12, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- It might have the same inspirations, but it being 3D automatically makes it a different design from the one used in 2D art. DesaMatt (talk) 00:52, January 17, 2025 (EST)
- All we have seen of the design so far is some blurry footage. Putting it as DEFINITELY being based off the movie design is jumping the gun, especially since it clearly has some differences from the movie's design as well (eye width, etc.) BubbleRevolution (talk) 03:02, January 17, 2025 (EST)
- I dunno. From what I can tell online, a lot of people are already saying it's inspired by the movie design. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 09:03, January 17, 2025 (EST)
- A lot of people can still be wrong. I think both the movie and the new Mario Kart's DK design are both taking design cues from the original Donkey Kong (Cranky)'s design, you can see it well in this original art, and how close that looks to this new 2026 calendar. (a bit early for one of those, isn't it?) So it's more of a case of them redesigning DK to resemble the old design, and then this new iteration first appeared in the movie before making its way to games and 2D artwork. So while I agree that it does resemble DK's design in the movie, I would not say it was "inspired by" or "based on" it. — Lady Sophie

King Bob-Omb
At one point, you can see what might be King Bob-Omb. As suggested in this Twitter post (https://x.com/RHVGamer/status/1879960122891583914/photo/1), it might suggest he will be returning. edlde62 (edlde62) 14:57, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- Pretty sure that's Lakitu instead. And I honestly don't see King Bob-omb in it anyway: couldn't find the mustache like the tweet you linked described, nor any dark blue of his spherical body. Instead, I recognized Lakitu's glasses and his round yellow head.

"It is the first completely new Mario Kart title for a Nintendo game system since Mario Kart 8 in 2014."
Shouldn't Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit count? Live is a "completely new" Mario Kart, and although it's not exactly mainline, we don't know if this is either (although it 99.99% is... but it hasn't been confirmed yet). BlueYoshi-57EML (talk) 15:12, January 16, 2025 (EST)
If you ask me, Home Circuit feels more like an RC car than an actual game Harvstar (talk) 16:49, January 16, 2025 (EST)
The correct wording would be the first "new traditional console entry" since Mario Kart 8, however we do not know yet if it is "traditional" and even then "traditional" is subjective. - YoYo (Talk) 12:18, March 3, 2025 (EST)
About Peach on the bike not having her bike outfit
In the trailer, Peach is driving on a bike using her kart outfit and not the bike outfit seen since Mario Kart Wii, and this page does talk about that: "Additionally, characters who previously were automatically given different outfits on bikes no longer do so".
However, I wouldn't put such a bold claim like this in this page, and basically confirming it's not returning. Yes it is in the trailer, but not only is it a weird thing to remove considering every Mario Kart game that has included bikes brings back the bike outfits, but Peach's dress also clips weirdly on the bike in the trailer and this all just looks like beta footage and not actually something they removed, rather they haven't added full support yet. Or maybe it's a customization thing though it's unlikely since again, it so obviously clips into the bike that I doubt Nintendo would let this slide. Rodmjorgeh (Psst, let's talk?) 17:52, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- There is the chance of there being alternate costumes in the game. DK Fan
- If it's a customization thing, please note the use of the word "automatically" in that statement. There's a reason it's there. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:17, January 16, 2025 (EST)
Red Shell tires
In the trailer, Mario's tires are labeled with the brand name "RED SHELL" (presumably the manufacturer). How should the page characterize this? They aren't exactly a sponsor, since they don't have any advertisements posted on the race course. (It's also unclear whether this is the Red Shell Strike Equipment sponsor from previous games, since they seem to make red shell items, not car parts.) Nopad (talk) 14:51, January 17, 2025 (EST)
I think it should be considered a sponsor for now, at least. (Especially because Luigi's car has the words "Blue Shell" on it, which is currently being considered a sponsor.) Harvstar (talk) 16:27, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
There are advertisements on the track for both Red Shell and Spiny Shell/Blue Shell- Red Shell Speed Tires and Spiny Shell Engine respectively. They do appear in the trailer, though I don't have timestamps to hand. HammerBrosPlumbing (talk) 08:26, April 3, 2025 (EDT)
Daisy Air Freshener Orange
In the area by the diner, there's an add for a new Daisy Air Freshener Orange, but on the article it seems to have been mislabeled as Princess Orange. The designs are similar, so Daisy Air Freshener Orange might be a new product under the same company as Princess Orange, but they are two different products! Images for sponsors
could we get some images for the sponsor list? or at least images for the sponsors somewhere else? Golddude64 (talk) 14:01, February 20, 2025 (EST)
- there should be a List of sponsors debuting in Mario Kart (Nintendo Switch 2) page for them, i'll make it today. - YoYo

Feather and Gold Shell items
In the new Switch 2 Parental Controls trailer, Bowser Jr. can be seen with the feather, even holding it behind him at times. On the website for Mario Kart World, the video for the Grand Prix shows a gold shell in the item roulette for less than a second at the very beginning. Just so these can be added to the Items section. --AGamer64 (talk) 12:19, April 2, 2025 (EST)

Coin Coffer
Coin Coffer appears twice in the Switch 2 Overview Trailer. First at 0:21 on the minimap and again at 5:14 driving a kart. I'm sure this will be added to the page soon but I wanted to be the first person on the wiki to report the big Coin Coffer news.

Did anyone else see a "barrel car" on a road in the trailer? I remember it being in a shot with a big bridge. Harvstar (talk) 16:18, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
Additional Footage
When the Switch 2 team is talking about the specs, they show additional footage of Mario Kart World, such as Mario going across a body of water with Ty-Foos. They show even more when discussing the GameChat feature. Someone should probably look into/upload screenshots from these. Harvstar (talk) 16:22, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
Who is this character?
I was looking at footage of the Knockout Tour mode on the website, and I noticed an icon in the top right that I didn't recognize, between Toad and Toadette. A green head with a helmet and what looks like a duck bill, which to me seems like a new racer, I just have no clue who it could be assuming it's not someone we already know. Veterans and Newcomers?
None of the other Mario Kart articles are formatted this way, and the "Veteran/Newcomer" naming thematic is a Smash Bros thing. All other Mario Kart pages lump the cast together and have "new" tags next to the new characters rather than separating them between old and new. Shouldn't this page do the same? --Burb (talk) 17:13, April 2, 2025 (EDT)

Should we start adding confirmed languages to the info box, same for Donkey Kong Bananza?
I know this may be a bit early, but since it was confirmed that this game would be playable in Brazilian Portuguese, I was wondering if I can start adding it into the info box along with English and Japanese?
I think we know it will also be playable in most of the Switch 2’s other supported languages (Dutch, French (Canada), French (France), German, Italian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Spanish (Latin America), Spanish (Spain) and Traditional Chinese), but it’s unknown if European Portuguese and Russian will also be supported, as well as any other new language if added onto Switch 2.
EDIT: The European pages confirm Russian as a supported language, but still unknown if European Portuguese will be. If I had to guess, probably will, but I won’t add it until it’s confirmed.
EDIT from 2/9/25: Turns out the game is actually gonna be in European Portuguese as well. CarlosYoshiBoi (talk) 16:02, April 2, 2025 (PDT)
Boshi
There was an entry on the references section mentioning the dark blue Yoshi skin being based on Boshi-
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars: One of Yoshi's costumes is based on the appearance of Boshi.
-but it was removed for being "an assumption", but I feel like it's pretty obvious it's inspired by Boshi? The sunglasses, dark blue skin, and red spiked collar are all traits of Boshi. If it were the light blue Yoshi or a different color or whatever, then sure, it's not Boshi, but I feel like this is a deliberate reference/homage.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by SuperGeno1996 (talk).
The skin has features of Boshi, but there's also enough differences in the design to make the intent questionable. You're honing in on the similarities while disregarding the differences.--Burb (talk) 21:48, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
- I remember seeing this Yoshi costume the first time watching the Direct but I can't find the scene again for the life of me. But I think it's a clear reference to Boshi by the dark blue colour and he has the same design of red, spiked collar. That's not saying it's exactly Boshi, but I think the collar would be a clear-enough reference (if I could just find a clear image of it), compared to if it were just sunglasses or something. MarioComix (talk) 04:48, April 3, 2025 (EDT)
- My two cents? The red collar with white spikes is suspect, but if you look carefully, the design looks more derived from Bowser's than Boshi's. It's also too soon to tell if this costume has its own palette swaps. If it turns out to be specific to this color of Yoshi, then the similarity can be noted, but it'd just be a loose reference. Note that the Direct otherwise has zero reference to the Super Mario RPG remake, despite all the other Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. LinkTheLefty (talk) 09:50, April 3, 2025 (EDT)

"Koopa hotel"
I anticipate this particular issue taking months to resolve, so here's a dedicated section of the discussion page to work this out in the open so we don't have to settle it through edit and revert summaries.
Is "Koopa hotel" a Hotel Mario reference? On one hand, it feels too specific to be unintentional. Or rather, if it is unintentional, it's too specific for there not to have been at least one person thinking "hey, are we making a Hotel Mario reference in this game?" at some point in the process between someone writing the text "Koopa hotel" on a texture and that text appearing in a trailer.
On the other hand, it feels uncharacteristic for Nintendo EPD (or any part of Nintendo, really) to directly acknowledge the existence of Hotel Mario. For just about any other Mario game from the 1990s, it wouldn't be a question if the exact name of a key concept from that game's story appearing in a modern release is a reference or not, but Hotel Mario isn't just any 1990s Mario game. This is a game that has historically been pushed under the rug, as a part of Super Mario history incompatible with the modern brand image. It would be really really weird for a game released in 2025 to directly reference this game.
It is unlikely that we will ever get a direct confirmation or denial about this, so the open question is: how should the Super Mario Wiki cover this? Does it belong in the "list of references" section of this article? Is it a possible reference that wouldn't go on the list of references but is worth mentioning on the Koopa hotel article or on the list of sponsors debuting in Mario Kart World? Or is it such a stretch that it shouldn't be acknowledged at all? I'm completely undecided right now, but I'd be interested in everyone else's suggestions for which solution would be the best in this case. jan Misali (talk · contributions) 12:36, April 4, 2025 (EDT)
- I think the wiki can't not mention it in some form. The only context I've seen this hotel acknowledged so far is in relation to Hotel Mario. The name choice here is really specific, such that it's inevitably going to be edited into the article several times over if its not already there. Nintendo has referenced Wand of Gamelon before multiple times, so there is a non-zero chance it's intentional.--PopitTart (talk) 15:15, April 4, 2025 (EDT)
- I don't think it's too specific. It's a city location, there are Koopas (one of many characters referenced in buildings and sponsors) - it's very possible they would have come up with the name on their own and that it's just a coincidence. I think the mention of the shared name on Koopa hotel#Notes (and maybe on Crown City's page too) is good enough. Also, the name appears in all versions, so it would be a reference on the developers' part in Japan and not the localisers, which seems less likely.

Remaining Cups
combing through lots of footage ive 99% confirmed the remaining 4 cups. i figured out the cup from after the race it shows the cup trophy, and the paths from little animation before each race where it shows you going from the previous track to current.
Banana Cup: Dino Dino Jungle, Great ? Block Ruins, Peach Beach, Salty Salty Speedway
Leaf Cup: Undetermined-name autumnal feudal japan course, Dandelion Depths, Boo Cinema, Dry Bones Burnout
Lightning Cup: Moo Moo Meadows, Choco Mountain, Toad's Factory, Bowser's Castle
Special Cup (confirmed by cup trophy ): Acorn Heights, Mario Circuit (snes), ???, Rainbow Road
only thing unknown at the moment is the 3rd track of special cup. it's likely another version of peach stadium the same way crown city is there twice, but it's the only thing i cant confirm. sorry again for not providing 2 million screenshots as proof of these but i combed through various twitch vods and youtube uploads of people playing the demos and really dont want to go back to find them. so yeah putting this because i think it's important

Peach Beach
are we seriously not going to say this is Peach Beach? The layout matches, it's got Cataquacks, its in a place called "Peach Resort". With Tour courses we always edited articles and listed the courses before the name's were confirmed because we could very clearly see the course was the same: the same applies here. We do not need a source for its name considering the course is 24 years old and it matches identically, it's even got the small square area by the starting line. - YoYo (Talk) 16:04, April 6, 2025 (EDT)
- While I have no strong opinion on whether we should call this Peach Beach at this moment, I do feel like calling it "Peach Resort" at this moment is at least as conjectural as calling it GCN Peach Beach would be. This game has a lot of cases of courses having signage that is not the actual course name - see GCN Dino Dino Jungle having "Dino Laboratory" signage all over, or Salty Salty Speedway having signage for "Lagoon City". As such, having a name displayed on signage doesn't really feel like a clearer indicator of what this course's name is than, well, the entire layout and course gimmicks, as YoYo pointed out. While I do feel like the course layout should be enough to put this as GCN Peach Beach for now, I also think it's fair to leave it with a purely descriptive name for now. It's mostly using the name from the signage that feels a bit too conjectural for me. UnderFlorence (talk) 16:36, April 6, 2025 (EDT)

The only way that the order of the cups as given here is not the actual order in the GPs is if the setups used to demo the GPs don't actually present content from the GP mode (and just random VS races, I suppose?), but at that point we might as well discount anything else we see from these demos. - Why would using screen recordings of an official event not be a valid source? It's showing off footage of the game, held at an official event, with permission by Nintendo to film at the event. If "fan made videos" were not a valid source, then stuff like tons of documentation on glitches would also be invalid. Any screenshots or videos on this wiki that were created by wiki editors to document levels, enemies, etc are also "fan made," should these also be removed? If we only ever were allowed to use Nintendo sources, then this wiki would be immensely empty and, for example, we wouldn't be able to document most endgame or postgame elements of games (like the last few secret levels of Mario Wonder), since any source for them would be "fan made." You are shielded from the Lightning item when underneath a roof in-game
I was watching Shortcat's video on Mario Kart, and at this timestamp he points out that the Lightning item doesn't effect you if you're in the tunnel during this transition by showing footage from a Japanese X (Twitter) user playing the demo. I myself refuse to get X, so my suggestion entails someone who does have this platform to go to the user's page, find the post, and use it as a source to add this information to the wiki. To save time, the user's account is "@jakusya_ss". --LuigiTime202 (talk) 02:51, April 8, 2025 (EDT)
Shouldn't we be using the character's default outfits for the character section?
This concerns the following characters:
On the Returning characters section, we use the official artwork for these three characters, but as you can see, these are NOT their default outfits, as Luigi is in his Pro Racer costume, Peach is in her Touring costume, and Bowser Jr. is in his Biker Jr. costume. Wouldn't it make more sense if we showed these characters in their default outfits instead?
Oh, and side note: on the the Character costumes section, we're using Luigi and Peach's artwork for their Pro Racer and Touring costumes respectively, but for some reason, we're NOT using Bowser Jr's artwork for his Biker Jr. costume. Similarly, Pauline's Aero costume has been replaced from her artwork from the key art, yet Daisy's Swimwear costume is still from the key art? Shouldn't Bowser Jr. and Pauline use their official artwork in order to be consistent with Luigi, Peach and Daisy? rend (talk) (edits) 12:00, April 8, 2025 (EDT)
- I assume the reasoning here is to prefer renders wherever possible.
- As for why some characters don't use their renders from the key art, those don't seem to have been released in an isolated form and would need to be cropped from the key art, which would mean a lot of overlap with other characters, and they wouldn't be shown in full. In those cases, a cropped gameplay screenshot generally seems to be showing the characters more completely. I assume once the game gets closer to release, we'll get more renders, and once it's out, we can take more consistent screenshot (i.e. just using the character select screen for everyone, or something). potentially false information
I already explained how the courses for banana to lightning and the last cup were poorly sourced and potentially wrong, nothing has been done, no one has thought of a reason for keeping this information, i suggest whoever is reading this to remove it immediately 80.46.119.108 17:33, April 10, 2025 (EDT)
- Youtube videos are a perfectly good source. I see nothing wrong with the analysis it shows based on official demo gameplay.--PopitTart (talk) 17:46, April 10, 2025 (EDT)
- but the demos do not show entire cups, and youtube videos where someone has just put together their own list of what they believe the cups will contain, rather than actual screenshots showing the course icons for each cup, isn't really a good enough source, we only have actual evidence for the first four cups, from gameplay footage 80.46.119.108 19:10, April 10, 2025 (EDT)
- The demos show races in Grand Prix mode that start at one location and end at another. This means both of those courses are in the same cup, since that's how Grand Prix works in Mario Kart World. We have demos showing a race from Peach Beach to Salty Salty Speedway, from SSS to Dino Dino Jungle, and from DDJ to Great ? Block Ruins. Therefore, all four of those tracks are in the same cup: The Banana Cup, as indicated by the trophy that also shows up at the end of these demos.--PopitTart (talk) 19:54, April 10, 2025 (EDT)
- okay 80.46.119.108 20:29, April 10, 2025 (EDT)
- i still recommend removal because there isn't a continuous showing of from each one to the next though in one grand prix though 80.46.119.108 12:48, April 11, 2025 (EDT)

- I removed it because you didn't have a source. You have one now, so now you can add it.

- I've gone ahead and added it with the source once I saw the original comment here, before I saw the response. Hope that's alright for you! UnderFlorence (talk) 10:45, April 11, 2025 (EDT)
