'''''Mario Family''''' (ジャガーミシン刺しゅう専用ソフトマリオファミリー ''Jaguar Mishin Sashi Senyou Soft: Mario Family'') is the first ever sewing machine to be operated by a [[Nintendo]] [[Game Boy Color]]: the JN-100. Another more recent model, the JN-2000, also works with a Game Boy Color. The way that these models work is that they receive instructions from the Game Boy Color, and with these instructions embroider special designs onto fabric. ''Mario Family'' was devised by a company called Jaguar. It was released on September 10, 2001 only in Japan.

Mario Family is a piece of software for the Game Boy Color compatible with Jaguar's JN-100 sewing machine. It was released only in Japan on August 27, 2001. Mario Family is the first Super Mario sewing software. It follows I am a teacher: Super Mario Sweater, knitting software made for the Family Computer Disk System. It was first exhibited at the Nintendo Space World 2001 venue along with Kirby Family. The latter was eventually canceled because Mario Family sold poorly, partly due to the required Jaguar sewing machine costs (and being geared towards a younger audience).[3]

Gameplay[edit]

The JN-100 came with a cable that would link it to a Game Boy Color, allowing the player to choose one of several designs that the machine can copy onto fabric. Another more recent model, the JN-2000, also works with a Game Boy Color. The Mario Family cartridge has 32 patterns stored in it; in the case of Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi, the same pattern is copied twice. Players can also alter the colors of the below patterns with a number of alternate palettes. The patterns are pixelated versions of classic-era hand-drawn Super Mario character and item artworks, created and published for games like Super Mario World.
