The whole point of the game is to get the most bananas, as in all DK minigames. The only way to get bananas is to jump on the barrels in the pool and break them open. If the player were to miss a barrel and land in the water, they would not be able to get out. Rarely, the player might jump on a barrel with a clump of bananas, giving them bonus points.

Most barrels contain a single banana, though some contain [[Banana Bunch]]es, which give a player five bananas. Players can jump on opponents who have fallen into the water to reach more barrels.
