Sea Urchins[1] appear in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and its Nintendo Switch port as large-eyed purple aquatic enemies. A Kong takes damage upon touching a Sea Urchin, due to its spikes. Sea Urchins can be defeated only from Cranky Kong's cane. They usually appear in groups, moving about individually or by the force of water currents. Sea Urchins most commonly appear in levels of Sea Breeze Cove, although they first appear in Lost Mangroves' boss stage, Big Top Bop, where Pompy occasionally throws Sea Urchins onto the stage. When this occurs, the Sea Urchin bounces along the ground a few times before retreating back into the water. In Fugu Face-Off, the boss level of Sea Breeze Cove, Fugu spits out Sea Urchins as projectiles.
Sea Urchins are not to be confused with other urchin-like balls encountered in the game. The appearance of those is closer to that of real-life sea urchins, as they lack eyes and seem more rigid. They can be destroyed only when found above the water, such as in Rockin' Relics, using a Cane Bounce.
