Unlike [[Croctopus]]es, who simply follow a set path, Nemos actually chase [[Donkey Kong]] and [[Diddy Kong]] throughout the level. When they are first encountered, they appear to be sleeping, but will soon emerge from their shells as the monkeys pass by. The Nemo will then follow behind them at a fast pace through the coral-filled level. If they are not fast enough, the enemy will attack the [[Kong]]s. These foes can be hard to avoid sometimes, as they can not be defeated and do move quite fast, even in tight spaces. At some point however, the Nemos will stop running after the heroes, and huddle back up in a corner somewhere around the coral.

Nemos,[1] also named Nautilus,[2][3][4] are enemies in Donkey Kong Land. Their name is taken from Captain Nemo, who pilots the submarine called the Nautilus in the science fiction novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, likely as a joke regarding the enemy itself being a nautilus. Nemos are underwater enemies appearing in Nautilus Chase only. Similarly to Croctopuses, Nemos chase Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong, except they do not follow a linear path, but rather in whichever direction the Kong is swimming. A Nemo appears dormant at first, but when the player character swims past the Nemo, it emerges from its shell and travels after the Kong in quick darting motions. Like with most enemies, a Nemos damages the Kong on contact. Like the game's other aquatic enemies, Nemos cannot be defeated. The Nemo eventually stops chasing the player character before moving into a corner within the coral.
