Burt The Bashful's Fort is the first fort level, the fourth level of World 1, and the fourth level overall of both Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3. This level introduces several new enemies, with its boss, Burt the Bashful, being fought at the end. This level's playable Yoshi is the Yellow Yoshi.
Burt the Bashful's Fort was the first fort that the Yellow Yoshi battled through in and the fourth level of the game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3. It's also the first level in which Yoshi finds Burts, a notable enemy of the Yoshi series, and Boo Guys. It also features the inclusion of Lava Pits to the game.

Overview
As the level begins, Yellow Yoshi finds himself at the beginning of the fort. Near the beginning, there are a few yellow Egg Blocks Yoshi may hit to collect yellow eggs from. He may then hit a few buckets for several coins. Certain walls in this area without blocks in front of them may fall onto Yoshi, damaging him and giving him little time to rescue Baby Mario if he is hit.

As the level begins, Yoshi finds himself inside the fort. Yoshi must collect the eggs by hitting the Egg Blocks at the start of the level and then aim at the two buckets with a Question Mark on them for coins. The player needs to be extra careful, as some walls may fall on Yoshi unexpectedly. If Yoshi is flattened by a falling wall, he will be unable to move for about seven seconds, giving little time to retrieve Baby Mario. Upon continuing his way, Yoshi finds some Boo Guys operating enormous traps Yoshi must dodge. Near here, however, is some ceilings with soft bricks. If the player throw eggs at it, the brick cracks. Yoshi can then jump above the ceiling, similar to Super Mario Bros.'s World 2. After that, Yoshi must continue his way until he finds two Burts. It is recommended for Yoshi to get rid of these enemies, as they leave stars behind. Around this place there's also a Special Flower. Yoshi has to jump back to the platform and continue forward. After going through the Flipper Door, he must immediately jump left and collect the Special Flower, as the wall falls on him otherwise. Not far from there, Yoshi finds another pair of Burts. He must simply get rid of them with eggs, like before, and collect the stars and venture on. Now Yoshi findd a new obstacle: Lava Pits. These cause Yoshi to lose a life when in contact with him, just like a normal pit. While the course looks easy, the player must be cautious as he or she jumps from one platform to another. He or she must also be sure to try and collect all red coins, which aren't many. After the short lava course, Yoshi shall enter the Warp Pipe.
Immediately following this, there are Boo Guys operating spike traps. There is then a Spring Ball Yellow Yoshi must be used to reach a higher platform. There are visible cracks in one part of the ceiling Yellow Yoshi may hit to create an opening. Jumping through it and heading left simply takes Yellow Yoshi back to the beginning, while heading right allows Yellow Yoshi to bypass certain obstacles (as well as items) due to there being other soft spots in the ceiling Yellow Yoshi may Ground Pound through. Below this are two Burts in a small area with a lift and a Special Flower. There is another Special Flower just to the right, though Yellow Yoshi must avoid another sudden falling wall to collect it. Just after this is another pair of Burts and an Egg Block. There is then a lava section, where Yellow Yoshi must use the horizontal lifts to make it across a long pit of lava to reach a Middle Ring and a Warp Pipe leading to the next area.

The pipe leaves Yoshi in a very similar place. Yoshi has to dodge the falling walls and traps and make his way to yet another Lava Pit. Here, Yoshi has to throw an egg at a ? Cloud for a bridge to appear. Yoshi has to try to avoid the Blarggs in the lava as he collects coins. He then must jump on a giant platform, which tilts depending on where Yoshi stands. Yoshi needs to try to stand on one side to get the Special Flower, and immediately jump to the opposite direction to avoid the lava. Alternatively, Yoshi may throw an egg at it. What follows this are four moving platforms. Yoshi must jump on one and try to collect the coins, while he tries to dodge the Mini-Blarggs below. After this, Yoshi finds a locked door, which is opened later on. As Yoshi hops on the moving platforms to the right, a Gargantua Blargg rises up from the lava. Yoshi must hit it with an egg for it to go back to the lava. The player, though, cannot get rid of it, and the Gargantua Blargg keeps rising up. Yoshi must try to collect the coins floating around until he arrives to safe ground again. Here, Yoshi must push the flower pot off the platform. When breaking, it reveals a key. Yoshi now has to go back to the door and use the key to enter it.

In this new room, there is three doors and some Burts jumping around. The player must take care of the Burts, hit the Egg Block for an egg supply and enter the second door (or middle door). Here, the player finds four Piranha Plants. Throwing eggs at each of them reveals a Special Flower.

The section Yellow Yoshi finds himself in is similar to the beginning of the level, featuring both a falling wall and a spike contraption operated by a pair of Boo Guys. There is an Egg Block between two Winged Clouds. The one on the left contains Stars, while the one on the right activates a bridge across the pool of lava when hit. After this is another pit of lava with a seesaw tilting slowly. There is a Special Flower close to the lava Yellow Yoshi may collect if he can avoid the Red Blargg in the lava. However, there is another Special Flower Yellow Yoshi may collect by tilting the seesaw to the right and then jumping on the left side to find the flower on a higher ledge.

Once Yoshi is back to the main room, he must enter the door to the right (the red one) and get ready for the first boss of the game.
Proceeding to the right, there is a circle of moving platforms with a Red Blargg in a pit of lava below. Next up is a pipe dispensing Shy-Guys and a locked door. After this is another lava section, in which Yellow Yoshi must traverse several vertical lifts and a Gargantua Blargg. On the other side of the pit is an Egg Block and a vase. Yellow Yoshi must break the vase to reveal a key. Yellow Yoshi must collect the key and return to the locked door to continue.

BOSS: Burt The Bashful
Beyond the locked door is a room with a few doors and Burts, as well as an Egg Block. The door in the middle of this room takes Yellow Yoshi to a small room with four Wild Piranhas. A Smiley Flower appears in one of the corners when all of them are defeated. After this, Yellow Yoshi may touch a Middle Ring and hit a Winged Cloud for Stars before entering the door to the boss room.

The first boss in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 is an enormous version of a regular Burt named Burt the Bashful.

As Yoshi falls into the room, after entering the door, he notices a small Burt jumping around. Kamek flies into the room and yells at Yoshi: "So you're still on the baby's side, Yoshi-baby? Then get a load of THIS!" Kamek will then flies around the screen, dropping magic energy around. This will make the Burt grow to gargantuan proportions.
When Yellow Yoshi drops into the boss room, Burt hops toward him. Kamek flies in and uses his magic to enlarge the Burt, turning him into Burt the Bashful, who attacks by simply hopping around the room, damaging Yellow Yoshi if touched. To defeat him, YellowYoshi must throw eggs at him, causing him to become faster. After he is hit six times, Burt the Bashful is defeated as his pants fall off completely. He becomes red and bounces around the screen, decreasing in size before disappearing, completing the level.

Despite Burt the Bashful's epic proportions, he's still just a regular Burt in a big body. To attack, Burt the Bashful just hops around the small room falling on Yoshi from time to time. To defeat Burt, Yoshi must throw eggs at him, which makes him jump gradually faster. Luckily for Yoshi, there is a small plant below which produces eggs for Yoshi each time he uses one. This way, Yoshi never runs out of eggs.

Overview[edit]

As the level begins, Yellow Yoshi finds himself at the beginning of the fort. Near the beginning, there are a few yellow Egg Blocks Yoshi may hit to collect yellow eggs from. He may then hit a few buckets for several coins. Certain walls in this area without blocks in front of them may fall onto Yoshi, damaging him and giving him little time to rescue Baby Mario if he is hit.

Gargantua Blargg from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
The lone Gargantua Blargg is encountered
