Chanchako
Species Whale
First appearance Super Mario (Super Mario Land 3) (1990)

Chanchako is a young whale that wears a pink sailor cap and sailor collar. He appeared in the third chapter of the Super Mario Land 3 manga.

While Mario, Luigi, and Template:Peach are sailing looking for Tetris Shima, they encounter Chanchako, that is looking for someone to help him free his mother from the ice of Tetris Shima. Following him, Mario and his friends reach the island and promise him to help his mother after dealing with King Tetris, but as they step foot on a ice rink, King Tetris ambushes them and traps them between giant Tetriminos. Chanchako emerges from under the ice below Mario, and uses his blowhole to help him jump over the blocks he then clears by repositioning them. When King Tetris tries to run away, Chanchako leaps from the water and bites his leg to stop him, getting clobbered by two of his polar bear minions. Mario and his friends reach him, shooing away the bears and saving Chanchako. When another Ice Hockey Tetris begins, Chanchako helps Team Mario winning and the island breaks, freeing Chanchako's mother, with whom he reunites. The two whales then bid goodbye to Mario, Luigi, and Peach and part ways with them.
