Chanchako's mother is a whale that was trapped in the ice of Tetris Shima in the Super Mario Land 3 manga, essentially becoming the inner structure of the entire island. Her only distinctive traits are long eyelashes and big lips.

While Mario, Luigi, and Peach are sailing to Tetris Shima, they encounter Chanchako, the whale's child, that is looking for someone to help him free his from the ice of Tetris Shima and leads them there. After the group defeats King Tetris, the ice of the island breaks, freeing Chanchako's mother, and she sends the King flying with her blowhole, making him lose his mask and book, the prizes he promised to Mario in case he won. After retrieving both prizes, the whales bid farewell to Mario and his friends and go to their separate ways.
