Dossunmengyo is a Thwomp-faced fish that briefly appears in Super Mario-kun Volume 9, based on the ningyo, creatures with both human and fish qualities from Japanese folklore. It was born from a chaotic event that fell upon the Mushroom Kingdom.

Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Birdo meet the Dossunmengyo while traversing a desert. They try to drink from an oasis lake, only to be attacked by the Dossunmengyo, armed with a fork and fire breath. They escape unharmed, due to the monster not being able to leave the water, and it is never seen again.
