The Black Sugar Gang (also called the Brown Sugar Pirates) is a group of pirates led by Captain Syrup in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and Wario Land II. They were originally known as the Brown Sugar Pirates in English, but were renamed to the Black Sugar Gang in Wario Land II, which was their name in the Japanese version of the first game. Their base of operations is the SS Teacup and Syrup Castle on Kitchen Island. The crew is made up mostly of Pirate Gooms and Wanderin' Gooms, though most of the significant members are of other species.

The Brown Sugar Pirates, as they were known in the English version of Wario Land, were well-known for stealing many great treasures, including a giant golden statue of Princess Toadstool, ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom. Upon hearing this, Wario travels to Kitchen Island, planning to steal their treasures. After traversing throughout the island, Wario succeeded in defeating Syrup's comrades and eventually defeated Syrup herself. Mario then took the statue of Toadstool right before Wario could get it. Saddened, Wario was cheered up when he stole the rest of the pirate's treasure and had the genie Denpū exchange some of it for a castle.
In Wario Land II, three Pirate Gooms led by Captain Syrup secretly raid Wario Castle and loot valuables out of revenge. Outraged, Wario chases them back to Kitchen Island to claim it back. Syrup sends her crew to defeat Wario, though they are unsuccessful. In the end, Wario manages to defeat the Black Sugar Gang once again, and recovers his stolen treasure.

The Brown Sugar Pirates reformed and underwent a member change. Their name was changed to Black Sugar Gang in English. The only individual members of the original Brown Sugar Pirates were Captain Syrup and Bobo, the ship's guard. The reformed pirates attacked Wario's Castle, and re-stole back all the treasure that they had stolen from civilians that Wario had stolen from them out of revenge in Wario Land II. Enraged, Wario returned to Kitchen Island to re-steal "his" stolen treasure. Syrup sent her new officers to defeat Wario, but again they all fell to him. Not even the Giant Spear Man could defeat Wario, though he tried many times. Eventually, Wario defeated Captain Syrup once again, but found the Giant Spear Man guarding the treasure hoard. Wario defeated him  for the final time, and re-obtained the stolen treasure. The Giant Spear Man then changed sides and followed Wario to his castle.
