Penguin (enemy): Difference between revisions
LinkTheLefty (talk | contribs) (Wario Land II is an interesting case where the English release predated the Japanese one by a fairly wide margin, so I prefer the ball being mentioned first. It's a little presumptive to say the beer was the original without proto evidence. It could also easily be a case of "hey let's add clarity to this thing" on the port side during GB->C development. Even the Prima guides came the following years, so it's not good evidence for censorship. Also I don't think this needs "about" with identifier.) |

Penguins[1][2][3] are enemies found in Wario Land II, where they are members of the Black Sugar Gang. They look like bipedal penguins with menacing beaks and bandanas tied around their heads.
In the Western version, penguins carry large black balls with handles (also called "insanity bombs"),[1] which they throw at Wario if he gets in their range; in the Japanese version, penguins hold on to beer mugs, and they instead try to splash alcohol on him. Despite the regional difference, Prima guides published after the Game Boy Color release show a screenshot of a penguin holding a beer mug.[4][5] In either case, if the projectile hits Wario, he becomes dizzy, making it harder for the player to control him. As penguins mostly appear in areas with small platforms and many opportunities to fall down a pit, there is also always a body of water near them that can be used to cure the status ailment they evoke.
