This level is quite intricate, requiring adequate jumping skills in order to survive. There are many Piranha Plants and Paratroopas present in this level, as well as a few Buzzy Beetles and Hammer Bros. The level also has a backwards Warp Zone, which takes Mario or Luigi back to World 5, so it is recommended not to go through any Warp Pipes, because the level is just a straight line unlike the other levels in this world (excluding World 8-3).

This is a very short level, though it can be confusing if not done properly. There is a Warp Pipe at the end of the level, that will only take the player into a bonus area and then take them back to the start. The only way out requires an enemy-stomping in order to strike a block containing a Beanstalk above a Paratroopa.

This level is all high in the sky, and it has about as many Hammer Bros., just like the original 8|3}}||World 8-3 from the first game. All of the castle walls in the background were removed from the All-Stars version. As a result, all of the Brick Blocks in front of the walls that seemed invisible until the player hit it were replaced by Invisible Blocks. This makes it impossible to speed run the level, as the player has to hit the blocks first to walk on them, rather than having them already being there to quickly jump up onto the pulley platforms right afterwards.

World 8-4 involves especially careful jumping and confusing paths through Warp Pipes, like the first 8|4}}|World 8-4. There is a very notable feature in this level, it involves two Bowsers, one being an unbeatable False Bowser and the other being the real one. After finishing this level, the player will be taken to World 9 or back to the title screen (or World A in the All-Stars version).
