This is the first level in the game to take place at night.  The player starts off standing near a bridge, which the player must cross on the way to the flag.  A flock of jumping Koopas can be found on the bridge, which the player must avoid.  There will be three blocks above the bridge, two of which contain coins and the other of which contains a Super Mushroom/Fire Flower (optional).  After navigating the bridge, the player must jump over a hole and climb a short staircase. Atop this staircase are three blocks, one of which contains a Starman, but it is not required to clear the level. Next will be a large gap with a few pipes in it. To be able to clear this gap, the player must jump on the pipes while avoiding the piranha plants hidden inside.

After avoiding the piranhas, the player will encounter a Super Spring, which can be jumped on to clear the gap.  There will be an area with a floor of blocks, one of which contains a vine.  If the player chooses to climb this vine, they will reach a Coin Heaven.  There is also a hidden 1-Up block on a platform above the level, which the player will fall on after dying in the Coin Heaven.

Then after climbing the staircase and destroying/avoiding the goombas on it, the player will reach the flag. The level will be cleared.

World 2-2 is another overworld level that takes place at night.  It is similar to the aforementioned level above, but there is no bridge and no access to a Coin Heaven.  There are many generic enemies like goombas, koopa troopas, koopa paratroopas, and piranha plants in this level, all of which must be carefully avoided.  Aside from these, there is no danger except for a few gaps in the middle of the course.

This level starts out in a setting very similar to that of World 2-1, as there is a bridge at the very beginning of the course with three koopas on it.  However, there are no ? blocks.

Another difference is that this is the first level of the game to feature cheep-cheeps, which jump over the bridges.  They can be easily avoided by running through the whole course.  If the player does not stop running throughout the level, it is virtually impossible for the plumber to be hit by a cheep-cheep.  Besides these (and a handfull of koopa troopas and an overworld blooper) there is little threat in the level, and the flag can be reached at the end.

World 2-4
World 2-4 is the second castle level in the game.  It is significantly more challenging then the first, as there are more enemies throughout the castle, like koopa troopas, goombas, firebars, and podoboos.  There are also many more lava pits in the course, but if these are avoided the plumber will once again encounter a False Bowser.  The room that the false Bowser is fought in this time is much smaller, so the player must wait for it to pause it's spitting fireballs before (s)he jumps over it to clear the world.  After hitting the golden hammer, the plumber will walk up to another Mushroom Retainer, who will say the repetitive phrase, "Thank You Mario!  But Our Princess Is In Another Castle!"
