The Bamboo is an item in the PC release of Mario's Time Machine. It is a piece of bamboo that Ts'ai Lun specifically cut in such a way that it could be used as a mold in the process of papermaking. Bowser travels back in time to Luoyang circa 105 to steal it, then places it in his museum full of stolen items. Mario later takes it back from the museum and travels back in time himself to Luoyang so that he can return it to Ts'ai Lun, although he does not know that it belongs to him. He questions some of the people within Luoyang about the Bamboo; a paper dryer notices its odd cut and wonders if Ts'ai Lun had ordered it that way, and a writer informs Mario that it is, in fact, bamboo. After Mario definitively confirms the identity of its owner, he brings it to Ts'ai Lun, who thanks Mario and immediately puts it to use (although he mentions that he needs four of them to complete his prototype for papermaking).
