(Proper section levels, only game titles are italicised, and where have they been called "Slanted Semisolid Platforms"? (If it's because of this, that's just the sentences.)) |

Slopes are indestructible diagonal surfaces that appear in most Super Mario games. The player can slide down a slope if they push the down button. There are two different kinds of slopes, as classified in Super Mario Maker: Steep Slopes and Gentle Slopes.
History
Super Mario series
Both the gentle and steep slopes were introduced in World 1-2 of Super Mario Bros. 3. In Super Mario World, slopes that act like Semisolid Platforms were introduced in Yoshi's Island 1.
Super Mario Maker 2 Slopes are a placeable part in Super Mario Maker 2. Steep and Gentle Slopes are available in all styles, and they are found in the terrain section in the Course Maker. When placed next to a ground tile, it makes a sound. The player can slide down slopes in all game styles except the Super Mario Bros. style, and get a speed boost if they ground-pound into the slope. Slopes are styled as stairs in the Super Mario 3D World game style in the Ghost House and Castle themes, but still have the same attributes as normal slopes.
Spike Balls are affected by these slopes. When going up a slope, they will slow down and roll the other way if they do not reach the top. They slow down faster going up Steep Slopes than Gentle Slopes. When going down a slope, however, they speed up and move faster. They speed up faster on Steep Slopes than on Gentle Slopes. The player can change a Conveyor Belt's height into one similar to a Steep Slope but not a Gentle Slope. If the player places many ON/OFF Trampolines inside a Steep Slope, the player and most enemies can walk on the slope as if it was a staircase.
