Cement tubs[1] (also known as sand piles,[2] cement piles,[3] coal bins,[4] or pies[5][6]) are obstacles appearing only in Donkey Kong, the Game Boy version, and the port included in Donkey Kong 64. In all of their appearances, cement tubs are located on multiple Conveyor Belts in 50m, and if the player touches one, they lose a life. Cement tubs can only be destroyed from using a hammer. Cement tubs do not appear in any ports of Donkey Kong lacking the 50m stage.
The arcade version has an unused sprite of the cement tub falling and spilling out its contents,[7] possibly conceived for when the cement tubs fall into the oil drum. Donkey Kong Jr. also has an unused sprite of a cement tub.
