<< Directory of levels >>

Clifftop Critters is the twenty-sixth level in Donkey Kong Land III and the second level of Tin Can Valley. Dixie and Kiddy must go to the bottom of a cliffside. Clifftop Critters features several horizontal ropes with Klasps on them. Similarly to Vertigo Verge, the Kongs must use these ropes to descend the mountain. Like most levels, there are dead-end paths leading to hidden items. At the end of the level, jumping over the Level Flag and following a trail of bananas leads to an Extra Life Balloon.

From the start of the level, the Kongs must journey to the west and make their way past a Knocka to a rope leading downwards. Kiddy can perform a roll jump to access an area with a bear coin and an Extra Life Balloon. Climbing down this rope, without hitting any Buzzes, will take them to a lower area of the mountain, where they must climb a little farther down on a rope. From there, Kiddy and Dixie must head east and defeat some Rekoils to find another rope. It will take them down to a few more ropes. Unless they want the DK Coin, the heroes should continue down the ropes and travel west again. After avoiding enemies, the monkeys will encounter another rope to climb down. They will end up on a lone, sideways rope from there. They must drop down from this rope and fall through a few more to land reach an even lower level of the mountain they are on. There, they must walk to the east and make it up a steep path to find the level's Star Barrel.

Halfway through the level, the heroes will need to journey down some nearby ropes. As they get down, they should beware of Klasps grabbing along the lines. At the next area, they must travel west and fall down more ropes, still dodging some Klasps. Soon, the Kongs will find themselves near a barrel. They should jump into it and shoot around the mountain in a U shape. After that, they will eventually come across a gap to jump into. Falling through it will take them to another sideways rope. Kiddy and Dixie must travel to the left on this and fall farther down the mountain. When they end up in the next area, they will need to follow some more ropes downward head east, where they must move along a rope to get over two Buzzes. After passing another pair of Buzzes, the group should jump down a few platforms and grab onto a rope below them. There will be a lot of open space around them at this point, although there will be Klasps crawling along the ropes nearby. The heroes will have to drop down several ropes in the area and make it down another abyss to the west. If they continue west from here, they will find the End of Level Flag.

After the first Bonus Barrel, the Kongs must continue right past two Rekoils and then climb down a vertical rope guarded by two Buzzes. They land in an area with a Steel Barrel, which they must pick up and throw at the left wall behind Koin. The Steel Barrel bounces off and hits Koin from behind, defeating him and rewarding the DK Coin to the Kongs.

Bonus Levels[edit]

Clifftop Critters has two Bonus Levels, listed by type:

  • Collect the Stars!: At the start, the Kongs must go left and pass some enemies and climb down a few ropes. From the third vertical rope, which a Buzz is to the left of, the Kongs must climb down it to go into a small area with the first Bonus Barrel. In the Bonus Level, the Kongs have 20 seconds to collect eight stars. They can collect them by blasting between four rotatable Barrel Cannon, which are sorted in a diamond shape. Two stars are between each Barrel Cannon. After collecting the stars, the Bonus Coin appears in the center for the Kongs to collect.
  • Find the Token!: When the Kongs reach the letter G, they must go up the slope and pass a Kopter. Once they reach the top, the Kongs can jump up into the Bonus Barrel. In the Bonus Level, the Kongs have 30 seconds to collect the Bonus Coin at the end. First, the Kongs must jump from three platforms attached to the cliff formations, one of which has a Sneek. They must then climb up a vertical rope and avoid a few Kopters. When Dixie or Kiddy reach the top of the rope, they must jump right to the Bonus Coin.
