The Odyssey lands in a secluded area south of the main part of the city. Nearby are some girders where Mario can find three regional coins. During Mechawiggler's attack on the city, there is a spark pylon on the blue tarp at the end of the girders which will take Mario to the city streets. After defeating Mechawiggler, Hint Toad and Uncle amiibo appear here, the spark pylon is moved closer to the Odyssey, and a Power Moon can be found inside the girders. Ground Pounding on the blue tarp where the spark pylon originally was makes coins pop out. Luigi also appears here after the main story's completion and hosts Balloon World.
The Odyssey lands in the south central area of the kingdom. Hint Toad and Uncle amiibo are directly west of the landing site. After completion of the main story. A Nintendog can be found near the Odyssey and will help Mario find a hidden Power Moon.

Depending on whether or not Mario has defeated Mechawiggler, there will be one of two Checkpoint Flags active near a small park (which is referred to as 'Squawks Park' on signs), both of which are reached via a spark pylon near the Odyssey's landing site. During Mechawiggler's attack, the Checkpoint Flag is southeast of the park and referred to as "City Outskirts". After Mechawiggler's defeat, the Checkpoint Flag is southwest of the park and referred to as "Main Street Entrance". At the Main Street Entrance, Mario can find a pair of Binoculars (through which the Sphynx can be seen after completion of the story) and a few New Donkers who welcome him to the city. Talkatoo and the Jump-Rope Challenge can be found at the park. Jammin' Toad, a Bonneter, and the Letters also appear at the park after the story is completed.
This Checkpoint Flag is on the roof of the lighthouse, where one of the four switches needed to restore the Sparkle Water is located. It can be reached by either going through the Underwater Tunnel to the Lighthouse or using a Gushen to hover there from where The Stone Pillar Seal Power Moon is.

The music that regularly plays throughout the city plays as soon as Mario touches the ground here. As such, it is possible, at least briefly, to advance through the city without the music playing so long as Mario stays off the ground.

Rooftop Garden
It is a small, flat garden atop one of the many buildings in this kingdom. Although most of the garden is found atop two connected buildings, a similar area close to these buildings also features a garden. While roaming the garden, Mario may find a Checkpoint Flag, a pole, and a rabbit he may catch for a Power Moon, though the rabbit often runs around the garden, hopping to the adjacent building. In the corner of the garden, two New Donkers sit on a bench in the shade of a tree. While exploring the garden, Mario may locate a set of four regional coins on the highest point as well as a football he may simply punt off the rooftop into the streets.

This area is accessed by using a spark pylon east of New Donk City Hall Plaza. It is a small park with a few trees and benches. The guitarist needed to form the band is found here. Power Moons can be found by Ground Pounding Mechawiggler's remains and touching a glowing bird. By climbing one of the trees, Mario can find two regional coins.

Checkpoint Flag locations

Odyssey

Main article: Odyssey

The Odyssey lands in the south central area of the kingdom. Hint Toad and Uncle amiibo are directly west of the landing site. After completion of the main story. A Nintendog can be found near the Odyssey and will help Mario find a hidden Power Moon.

Lighthouse

Main article: Lighthouse (Super Mario Odyssey)

This Checkpoint Flag is on the roof of the lighthouse, where one of the four switches needed to restore the Sparkle Water is located. It can be reached by either going through the Underwater Tunnel to the Lighthouse or using a Gushen to hover there from where The Stone Pillar Seal Power Moon is.

Location list

Cap Kingdom

 • Central Plaza: Borderline, kind of noteworthy, but generically named and not that distinct from the rest of the kingdom since there are hat houses in other parts and it's generically named.
 • Glasses Bridge: Keep, minor landmark mentioned in the brochure.
 • Sometimes Bridge: Borderline, context of the name is that the brochure calls it 'The "Sometimes" Bridge', meaning it's not really a name and should probably be merged later, but whatever, it's not high on my priority list.
 • Top-Hat Tower: Keep, it's a major landmark with a sub-area in it.

Cascade Kingdom

Sand Kingdom

Lake Kingdom

Wooded Kingdom

Lost Kingdom

Metro Kingdom

Snow Kingdom

Seaside Kingdom

Luncheon Kingdom

Bowser's Kingdom

 • Souvenir Shop: Merge. It's basically just a floating island with a Crazy Cap on it, but there's a back door with a secret room inside. And there are seats and stuff... Anyway, it's generically named, and we already have a Crazy Cap article.
 • Island in the Sky (Bowser's Kingdom): Merge, painting exit location.
 • Third Courtyard (Front), Third Courtyard (Rear), Second Courtyard, Main Courtyard Entrance, Main Courtyard, Outer Wall, Inner Wall, Beneath the Keep: Merge. They're basically different islands and parts of the castle. The Main Courtyard Entrance is where Hariet and Topper and are fought. They're generically named, and they're not really landmarks, just different parts of the level. They're exactly the sort of thing I would compare to SMG planets.
 • Showdown Arena: Merge: The RoboBrood battle arena. Some New Donkers show up and decorate it a bit later. Otherwise, same as above.

Moon Kingdom

 • Ringing-Bells Plateau: Merge. Nondescript checkpoint location, despite the fancy name.
 • Quiet Wall: Merge, it's just the entrance to the fake link|Underground Moon Caverns.
 • Ever-After Hill: Merge, totally featureless path to the Wedding Hall aside from a red carpet.
 • Wedding Hall: Keep. Major landmark, important story location.
 • Underground Moon Caverns: Keep, major sub-area.

Mushroom Kingdom
