The Stapler's shadow can be seen at the beginning of the game in Peach's Castle, where it transforms Bowser's minions into Folded Soldiers, ensuring that they cannot unfold themselves. Consequently, it was also the one who kept Bowser stuck in his folded form.

Later, in Origami Castle, as Mario, Olivia and Bowser corner King Olly, he sets the Stapler on them. After Mario defeats the Stapler, Bowser unfolds and returns to his normal self.

Battle

Stapler can charge up Bite Barrage to repeatedly attack Mario, or use Dog Tag to prevent Mario from moving with two staples, allowing it to essentially attack twice in a row with Untag Wag (which has the side effect of freeing Mario). However, after using Bite Barrage, it needs to refill its staples, leaving it vulnerable to another attack. When Mario is far away, it can use Staple Gun to shoot eight staples at Mario. Stapler has three colors of staples: gray, red, and gold, each doing more damage than the last. It switches staple types when it loses a third of its health.

When Mario rushes Stapler with the 1,000-Fold Arms, when it gets to 1 HP Mario opens its "mouth" so wide that it smashes open.[1]
