History
Donkey Kong franchise
Donkey Kong
Fires make their first appearance in the original Donkey Kong as enemies. They exclusively appear in 100 m, and as they are slightly larger than the Fireball enemies that appear in other levels, they are more difficult to jump over. Fires can climb ladders, no matter if they are broken or fixed, but cannot reverse directions during the climb. If Mario jumps over a Fire, he receives points, but the only way to destroy them is with a hammer. Picking up a hammer causes the Fires to turn blue. There can only be five or less Fires on the screen at the same time in the arcade version; that number was lowered to four in the Nintendo Entertainment System port of the game.
Donkey Kong (Game Boy)
In Donkey Kong for Game Boy, Fires appear in the Start, which is a recreation of the arcade original.
Donkey Kong 64
During the events of Donkey Kong 64, Fires retain their role of enemies in a built-in port of the classic Donkey Kong game, playable through an arcade machine found inside Frantic Factory.
