Corkscrew is a special move in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. When underwater, any of the playable characters can execute this move. The Corkscrew can usually be used as an attack method on most submerged foes, such as Finleys, but it can sometimes serve other needs, such as that of breaking less durable structures in order to uncover goodies. A Corkscrew attack consists of a swift spin move, which reminds of an actual corkscrew's spiraled form. If the player controls a single Kong and performs the Corkscrew, the latter will confer him or her a short boost of speed underwater. However, if the Kong is assisted by a partner, the Corkscew can be used continuously, speeding up locomotion when swimming. Players can gain impulse when leaping out of the water if they do the Corkscrew move right under the surface, while facing their character upwards. This way, it is possible to take by surprise and attack land-based enemies from the bottom.

Corkscrew is an underwater special move in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The move can be executed by any of the playable characters and can be used to attack most submerged enemies, such as Finleys and Gordos, or to collapse flimsy structures in order to reveal items. It can be performed in place or while swimming, offering some momentum in the latter case. If Donkey Kong or Funky Kong are alone, they can only perform a Corkscrew at a time, but if they are assisted by a partner, they will be able to Corkscrew continually. The move is comparable to the land-based Roll Attack.

The Corkscrew move can be executed by:

 • pressing X Button or Y Button, when the player uses the primary controls of the Wii U GamePad;
 • pressing ZL Button or ZR Button, when the player uses the secondary controls of the Wii U GamePad;
 • shaking the Wii Remote when the player uses only the Wii Remote;
 • shaking the Wii Remote and Nunchuk when the player uses both the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk.
