Template:Item-infobox The Moon is a course part introduced in Super Mario Maker 2. It serves as an alternate form of the Angry Sun, but instead of harming the playable character, it defeats every enemy on the screen upon touching it.
When a Moon is placed in a course in the editor mode, the current theme switches to a night variant with different properties than the normal daytime one. However, after it has been placed once, the night variant of every theme becomes selectable from the menu, and the Moon will not need to be placed again to trigger night mode from that point onward. In addition to unique level effects, nighttime levels have a starry background (with the exception of Ghost House, Airship, and Underwater levels, which have darker versions of their respective backgrounds), and a music-box version of the level's music plays instead of the standard one.
The Moon, along with the Angry Sun, is absent in the Super Mario 3D World game style. As such, the night theme is not present in it.

Trivia
- Not counting the New Super Mario Bros. U-styled version, the moon resembles the one in the Space Zone from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.
