Several Tomatoes can be found in the area near Funky's Store in the area Fungi Forest at night. If one of the Kongs comes too close to a Tomato, it will lunge at them and damage them. The Kongs cannot even fight back as the attacks cannot harm the evil fruit. In order to combat the Tomatoes, Chunky Kong must jump into a nearby Hunky Chunky Barrel to become Hunky Chunky.
When Hunky Chunky approaches the Tomatoes, the Worm starts speaking to him, telling that all of its friends were eaten by the Tomatoes and that it could also be eaten unless Chunky defeats the Tomatoes.
