In Donkey Kong 64, Bats appeared in Fungi Forest during nighttime and in Creepy Castle. Zingers replace Bats during the daytime in Fungi Forest. Bats attack the active Kong by quickly swooping at them. The Kongs can defeat Bats by either blasting them with their weapon, using their musical instrument, or by throwing an orange.

DK: King of Swing

Bats reappeared in DK: King of Swing, where they have since been renamed to Flipflap. They were slightly redesigned and received a more purplish body and a larger head.

Flipflaps most often appear in cave levels. Their behavior remains the same as in Donkey Kong 64, where they attempt to attack Donkey Kong or Diddy by flapping into them.
