They do not attack Donkey Kong, but if the ape touches them, he will get hurt. If the Kong claps near them, they will shrink and become harmless, flying around spastically. By doing so again, they will be defeated, providing DK with one beat.
Hatchī mostly appear in groups, and dwell in various levels throughout the game.

- Hatchī appeared as an unused model under the name Bee in Super Mario Galaxy.[2]
- Choppahs from Super Mario Galaxy 2 may have been inspired from Hatchīes.
