Following the Toad's advice, Luigi drops down to the Bottom of the Well, via a conveniently placed ladder. After reaching the east end of the short room, Luigi peers through the mouth of a stone lion into an eye-catching room. Peering through, Luigi notices a painting of his brother mounted on the far wall, who is beating against the frame of the painting for help. Because he cannot reach his brother, Luigi turns back to face a Ceiling Surprise (a Purple Bomber in the PAL Hidden Mansion). Once he captures the ghost, Luigi procures the Key to the Rec Room. He then climbs up the ladder and crosses the courtyard to the Rec Room.
Trivia
- "Bottom of the Well" is another name given to a dungeon found in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time video game.
- While listening closely outside the well, one can hear Mario saying "Hey Luigi! What's the holdup?"
- If Luigi enters the Bottom of the Well during the blackout, he can see Mario again through the statue, but King Boo will not be visible.
- This room allows Luigi to view the final area of the game, the Secret Altar, long before he is actually able to enter there.
