The Super Scope, known in PAL regions as the Nintendo Scope, is, when seen in-game, a type of gun, and, in the Real World, a peripheral for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The weapon was featured in the game Yoshi's Safari, which was played using the actual Super Scope peripheral. Super Scopes also cameo as an in-game item used by Sniper Bills in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and the peripheral can be seen in the WarioWare: Touched! microgame, Gunslinger.
The Super Scope is featured as an item in Super Smash Bros. Melee, allowing players to fire energy balls at their opponents, either in dozens of small bullets or three huge charged up shots. When a player repeatedly shoots small blasts in a line, the opponent will be unable to move away when hit, however the player themself also cannot move while firing. The Super Scope returns in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, now allowing players to be able to walk and jump while firing the item.
The devo-guns used to cause De-Evolution from the Super Mario Bros. movie are also quite obviously designed after Super Scopes.
The Super Scope relied on an infrared sensor device perched atop the television, whose accuracy was unreliable. This made the bazooka-like device unpopular, and only a few games were made for it.
Trophy Information from Super Smash Bros. Melee
A peripheral device for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Scope is a wireless weapon that shoots infrared light to a receiver placed on top of the television. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, it can be fired rapidly or charged up to release a more powerful blast. It only has enough energy for 3 charge shots.
Trophy Information from Super Smash Bros. Brawl
A bazooka-shaped peripheral for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System that was used wirelessly with an infrared sensor placed on top of the television. In Smash Bros., it can be fired rapidly or charged up. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, you could not move while shooting it, but in this game, you can move and jump while blasting!
