Kalypso makes her debut in the game Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, where she is an unlockable character. Kalypso is a female Kritter designed to rival Tiny Kong, and as such has the same stats, as well as a similar body composition. Currently, she and Kass are the only female Kremling characters to have appeared in a game in the Donkey Kong series, as King K. Rool has been implied to have a wife in some games. Her name is derived from the style of lively Caribbean folk music known as "calypso".
History
Donkey Kong Barrel Blast
Kalypso is unlockable in her first appearance by beating the Sapphire Cup with a Kremling. She appears in the game as a rival for the character Tiny Kong, as such, they share stats. Kalypso has a claw attack and as all characters in the game she can also perform Wild Moves. Her bongos are designed to represent her purple pallet and golden jewelry. She has top boost, good speed and medium agility.
In the Single Racing cutscene Kalypso can be seen, along Kass, Kritter and Klump, in front of their rivals, Tiny Kong, Lanky Kong, Dixie Kong and Donkey Kong. In the Time Trial cutscene she can be seen along Kopter and Diddy Kong as part of the public giving indications to the racers of where to go next by showing them a sign. She makes another appearance in one of Candy Challenges in Challenge # 14: Help Tiny Kong!, Donkey Kong has to help Tiny Kong beat Kalypso in a race, this challenge is level 2 in difficulty.
Super Smash Bros. series
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Kalypso also appears as a sticker and a Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, both of which are unlockable, and designed after her appearance in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast. Her trophy mentions her beauty and her groovy hair as well as describing her stats and her clawing attack. Her sticker uses her artwork from Donkey Kong Barrel Blast and increases launch power. The European version of the game mentions she owns a clubhouse and that she is good at sports and dancing, while also being a good leader.
Character Description
Kalypso has pale blue-green skin, a purple top with a skull design, purple claw polish, and blue jeans with a skull belt. Her hairstyle is a large purple afro. Her size compliments Tiny Kong's, as such they rival each other in her debut appearance. Kalypso has been described as a cool and attractive character, but it is said she has an irritating laugh.
