To make a note here, the service pack can be installed under Wine with winetricks vb6run
. Tested to work on Ubuntu 16.04. --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 00:51, 11 November 2016 (EST)
Requires to be installed?[edit]
I downloaded the file, but the program needs to be installed? ® 14:21, 5 January 2017 (EST)
- What do you mean? Nothing to install. Just extract the contents of the
*.zip
and double-clickPNGMonstrous.exe
. If you can, show me what's going on. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:58, 5 January 2017 (EST)- How to reduce file size? ® 11:34, 8 January 2017 (EST)
- Place PNGs in the directory that shows up in the textbox of PNG Monstrous or change the textbox's directory to point to. You have to do this manually using Windows Explorer by copying its address bar where the PNGs are stored and pasting the text into PNG Monstrous. I could try to setup a specify directory dialog but never got around to it. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:17, 8 January 2017 (EST)

Features[edit]
What does it adds as additional features? -- FanOfYoshi 09:34, August 5, 2019 (EDT)
- It adds the zopflipng compressor, which is a newer and more efficient algorithm developed by Google. Generally, compressing with PNGOUT followed by zopflipng provides the best compression in the shortest time, and each one sometimes catches things that the other doesn’t. --Super Mario Fan 67 (T•C•S) 10:46, August 5, 2019 (EDT)
Bug Report[edit]
I have encountered perhaps the most niche issue ever. If you feed this program a file with a directory name that is more than 255 or so characters, the program just crashes outright. It doesn't corrupt the file, fortunately, but it also doesn't exactly compress the images either. I only discovered this as I was multiple days in to compressing an image set easily in the thousands of images for my own use... That was a fun thing to troubleshoot.
While I very much doubt many people will encounter a file directory that's longer than 255 characters (ESPECIALLY in the context of the Mario Wiki), the fact this is an issue that is possible and also just breaks the program is very silly, and I figure I should probably report it so it can get fixed. ~Camwood777 (talk) 18:47, December 9, 2021 (EST)
