Tip of the Month (FunkyK38 (talk))
This month, I'll be giving a basic tutorial on how to link to other pages in the MarioWiki. You have to know how to do this when writing an article, and it comes in very handy in many other places! When you're linking, double check that you've spelled the title of the desired page correctly, or you'll end up with a broken link!
A basic link, such as this: Mario, is coded like this:MarioUse this type of link to lead readers to other articles on the wiki. If you want to redirect to a page, but have the link say something else, like this, type:
thisUsually this is used when you're talking about the character/item in question without stating their name or the title of the article, for example, referring to Princess Peach as just Peach.
You can also use this format for links in templates if the title of the redirected article is too long for the template box, such as linking to "List of games released in 2015," which might unbalance your template. You can instead use the above format to set the link to just "2015" in your template. Just make sure that when you use this type of link, you don't mislead readers with what you're redirecting them to!
Don't forget to check that the brackets you use on the end of your links are the boxes, ! If you use , you will get something completely different! If, for the first link, I had typed inMarioyou would have seen a broken link. When linking within articles, all you really need are the links. Using will show a broken link to a template that hasn't been created.
New Articles (Lumastar (talk))
Welcome to this month's issue of New Articles, The 'Shroom's dedicated section to (you guessed it) new articles on the wiki.
You may have noticed that I extended the time frame covered this month due to E3 2015. We now have four/five new titles in the Mario franchise, including Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure (out now on the Nintendo e-Shop!), Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash. We also got a ton more details on Super Mario Maker (changed from its previous title of Mario Maker) and a few more on Yoshi's Woolly World. My wish from last month that Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition would be covered well was happily granted.
Like last month, I will give a shout-out to user for their hard work. I thought about shouting out to Zootalo last month, but I'm glad I waited; he made 22 new articles this month and wins the new MVP award. In addition to what I mentioned above we also got lots of new articles related to the Super Smash Bros. and Paper Mario series this month among others. As usual, please take a look.
I like to give advice each month, so here's some for anyone wanting to make a new article on the wiki: If possible, please add images. Sometimes I make an article, upload images, and edit the article so that they are included. If you cannot find images, please tag the article so that someone else can try to find and get some for it.
If you want to see some changes or additions to new articles, please contact me. Either PM me on the forums (I'm right here [1]) or leave me your suggestion on my talk page. The former will likely yield a quicker response, but I will make sure to check both areas for what you might have to say. Here is the list of articles as well as more information:
MVP of the Month= Zootalo (with 22 articles including the extension, but still the winner without it)
Month-to-Month Comparison= 59 (+5) (Note that this is only based on articles made before the thirteenth due to the extension.)
Anniversary Announcements (Lakituthequick (talk))
And a jolly good day to you good ma'am. Or sir. Today is a great day to be on this globe. Not only is it almost the longest day of the year, it is also time for a new edition of Anniversary Announcements.
Most important of all: the polls have opened! The polls will remain open until July 17. If you are voting on the Userpedia and 'Shroom Awards, be sure to check out their respective dossiers that are also in this edition of 'The 'Shroom.
Also, presentation sign-ups for those awards open at July 1.
Then: Tournaments! While I kept things at a simple table last month, this time we go deeper into all of them, unless they have already started or closed sign-ups, or if they don't have a forum thread yet on the Awards Board.
