Name Etymology[edit]

The page describes the origin of the name "Zeekeeper" as a combination of "Zookeeper" and "Zee", but it seems that a combination of "Beekeeper" and "Zee" could be just as (if not more) likely. In fact, the word "Zookeeper" differs from the word "Zeekeeper" by two letters, while the word "Beekeeper" only differs from "Zeekeeper" by one letter. I tried noting this in the article, but the edit was reverted for being "pretty unlikely." Am I missing an additional factor that makes the word "Zookeeper" a more likely origin? - Gameboy97q (talk) 12:36, 2 February 2014 (EST)

Yeah I see more similarities with it being a "Beekeeper" rather than "Zookeeper". "Bee" and "Zee" also rhymes as well. I'll probably fix it but I don't have the game so I don't know what this thing does. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 13:14, 2 February 2014 (EST)
Zookeeper actually starts with Z, the phonetic spelling of which giving part of its name. And considering there's several other things which also use the phonetic spelling of Z on this island, the word that has Z would be the more likely word this guy's name is based off of. Besides, I've played through this game pretty darn thoroughly twice and I don't recall there being a single reference or even hint to bees in this entire game barring these chumps, so it wouldn't even make much sense of it was based off Beekeeper, especially considering the guy's a bird deity who hasn't had any apparent interaction with bees whatsoever. What if there actually is no reference to Zookeeper at all and it's just the entity of "Zee" simply merged with "keeper"? I mean this sort of stuff does happen with guardians. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 13:47, 2 February 2014 (EST)
Honestly, that's the most likely scenario. Neither Zookeeper or Beekeeper have much reason to make up part of his name, and either word shouldn't be unnecessarily forced on to this page and claimed to have significance in the Zeekeeper's naming process. So I agree, it likely is "keeper". It makes too much sense. Icemario (talk)
