NSMB2 section[edit]

What do you mean by "they cannot be gone through"? Haven't they always been like that? This should be changed for clarity. YoshiCookie (talk) 10:15, 10 December 2015 (EST)

I believe it means that you can't walk through them during the brief period of invincibility you get after being hit (which is entirely possible in NSMBW, at least), but since I don't own NSMB2, I can't be sure. Bop1996 (Talk)

Move to "Skewer"[edit]

rename 5-1

I don't recall these obstacles being called "Spike Pillars" in any game, maybe on the guides, but I don't have any. Anyway, two recent games, New Super Mario Bros. U and Mario Party: Island Tour, name them "Skewers" (Giant Skewer Tower is "Giant Spike Pillar Tower" in PAL regions, but we have preference for NA names).

Move to "Skewer"[edit]

  1. MegaKoopa (talk) My proposal.
  2. Yoshi876 (talk) If it's the most commonly used recent name then as per policy it should be renamed.
  3. Baby Luigi (talk) Per all
  4. Gonzales Kart Inc. (talk) Per Yoshi876.
  5. Mario3D64 (talk) Per all.

Don't move[edit]

  1. Randombob-omb4761 (talk) 2 games? why would we move something to a name that only is that name in 2 games?

Comments[edit]

Just a note, there is a Skewer page so that would need to be renamed Skewer (move) and this to be renamed to Skewer (obstacle). Yoshi876 (talk)

How do you know the level name is a reference to the obstacle rather than the level's appearance itself? If this will create ambiguity, I think we should keep it as the same.

Right, I haven't thought of that, but MPIT still says "Avoid the Skewers...", even with a capital letter. Koopa Troopa from Super Paper Mario. MegaKoopa Talk 09:34, 27 November 2013 (EST)
Interesting. So I suppose they are Skewers after all (I think Spike Pillar is way more descriptive, but who am I to dictate the names of things?)

@Randombob-omb It is because those are the two newest games that are using this name, and as per the naming policy that I mentioned in my support, the newest most commonly used name is the name we should use. Yoshi876 (talk)

BTW, Skewer already has a page on this wiki. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 21:18, 29 November 2013 (EST)

I mentioned that above, best would be Skewer (obstacle). Yoshi876 (talk)

Done! Since the TPP is already settled, I went ahead and moved it TVTrash (talk) 09:41, 14 December 2013 (EST)

French name[edit]

what it his french name

i added the a to show by the french name is unknown

The "Skewer" name could just be poetic licence[edit]

They are never reffered to as "Skewers" in the game's files. --Hiccup (talk) 11:04, 20 April 2015 (EDT)

The Mario Party: Island Tour minigame Kabob and Weave and the Mario Party 10 minigame Skewer Scurry explicitly refer to them as "Skewers" in their description. Can't get much more official than that. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
Are the "In-game description"s from the USA versions or EUR versions? --Hiccup (talk) 05:47, 1 July 2015 (EDT)
It's most likely from the U.S. version. If they're not identical. Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 21:29, 1 July 2015 (EDT)

I would say Skewer wins, since we usually use American names, but NoA just had to throw us a curveball and call them Spike Pillars in the Tips of American Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. What's a guy to do? YoshiCookie (talk) 20:12, 4 November 2015 (EST)

Question[edit]

Can you spin jump on the ones in Super Mario World? --Reversalmushroom (talk) 16:53, 13 January 2016 (EST)

This.[edit]

This. I don't think the Skewer (obstacle) article should have been deleted. That is what I think. 107.146.244.150 19:58, June 29, 2021 (EDT)

I don't quite understand your statement. Can you clarify? BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 20:00, June 29, 2021 (EDT)

I think that the article should have not been deleted because it was there for so long. 107.146.244.150 20:01, June 29, 2021 (EDT)

You could at least be more specific with your section titles rather than just "this" every time. Anyway, I may not have known about this situation before, but can you further explain why you think that? Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 20:02, June 29, 2021 (EDT)
It never has been deleted. The page has been moved and the redirect became pointless. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 20:04, June 29, 2021 (EDT)

I will. 107.146.244.150 20:05, June 29, 2021 (EDT)
