How is this necessary? This is just a list of generic sheep with no actual purpose in any of the games they appear in, which I'm pretty sure violates MarioWiki:Generic subjects.

Comments[edit]

While I agree sheep don't have any significant purpose in the games listed here, there are sheep in Super Mario Odyssey, where they're found in Tostarena and might even serve a more important role this time around (if I recall correctly, one Tostarenan asks Mario to return his sheep to him). Would it be best to wait until the game's release to make this proposal? Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 07:01, 12 August 2017 (EDT)

Didn't know about that, thanks for pointing that out. Yeah, I'll put this on hold until there's more info about their role in SMO. Niiue (talk) 07:18, 12 August 2017 (EDT)

Herd up this article[edit]

clean up the article 8-3
"A bunch of generic sheep appear in certain games! Isn't that interesting?"

Yeah.

A lot of this article fails the generic subjects policy. We already have articles for "specialized sheep" such as the Lamb's Lure, Sheep Attack, Sleepy Sheep, Snooze Ewes, Falling Asheep, Shear Terror, and the like. Really, the only "sheep" that serves a merit here are the sheep from Super Mario Odyssey, as they are beings you can actually interact with and actually herd to obtain Power Moons. None of the other sections should be allowed to stay.

So, shall we shear this article?

Herd it up and then shear it[edit]

  1. Toadette the Achiever (talk) I've got shearing scissors, why not use them?
  2. Waluigi Time (talk) Per proposal, this article is baaad.
  3. BBQ Turtle (talk) Per all of the bad sheep puns.
  4. Niiue (talk) Per all.
  5. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per proposal.
  6. Doomhiker (talk)The shear amount of padding in this article is Baaaffling (Such as with the Mario Party Advance section, where the Snooze Ewes page sums it up better) so I am supporting shearing up this article.
  7. bwburke94 (talk) Per all. We don't need to cover every generic subject.
  8. GrainedCargo192 (talk) Per all.

Let it roam free[edit]

  1. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) "Smithy, the resistance has been turning all our soldiers into sheep!" I think SMRPG should count; I also feel that the stampedes from the early PM games should count as well.
  2. WeirdDave13 (talk) Changing vote, we should include the sheep from PM and SMRPG.
  3. FanOfYoshi (talk) Per all.

Comments[edit]

@Doc von Schmeltwick: I don't see what makes those two instances of sheep any more important than the other ones that would be cut with this proposal. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 19:49, 20 November 2018 (EST)

After reading the article again, I suppose the SMRPG one could stay, but I don't think the PM ones need to. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 20:03, 20 November 2018 (EST)
Even relating to items specifically, it's actual gameplay significance. To the idea of not having it, I give this faceMedia:SheepattackSMRPG.png. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:17, 20 November 2018 (EST)
The Paper Mario sheep doesn't need to be in the article if it's already covered at Sleepy Sheep. Likewise, the Super Mario RPG sheep doesn't need to be in the article either if the Lamb's Lure and Sheep Attack articles basically sum up the game's sheep appearances, which I'm pretty sure they do. Sleepy Sheep is an item that summons actual sheep; said sheep are not Sleepy Sheep themselves. Also, following that logic, Tweester shouldn't have a Mario Party section, since their role is essentially summed up in the Tweester Orb article. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:30, 20 November 2018 (EST)
Tweester is an entirely different pen. Because Tweesters are a species actually unique to the Mario franchise, the Tweester Orb is mentioned, but only briefly. What I'm saying is that, for example, a horse's appearance in Mario's Time Machine or Mobile Golf should not be documented just because there's an item used on it or it belongs to Bean, respectively. I'm still not up to speed on why gameplay-intrinsic appearances in WarioWare microgames don't warrant mentions. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:46, 20 November 2018 (EST)
You mean that we should remove sections from the article? --A sprite of Mario from Super Mario World. FanOfMar10Block Super Mario World.png at 10:50, 4 December 2018 (EST)

Mario RPG and Paper Mario[edit]

Do they worth be readded here? Not that i'm necessarily questioning the above proposal, but at least, they are relevant to the gameplay, unlike other generic sheeps. --A sprite of Mario from Super Mario World. FanOfMar10Block Super Mario World.png at 06:38, June 11, 2019 (EDT)

They're not really that distinct from the items that summon them, imo. Niiue - Who has lost his tail? 06:59, June 11, 2019 (EDT)
How aren't they? --A sprite of Mario from Super Mario World. FanOfMar10Block Super Mario World.png at 13:17, June 13, 2019 (EDT)
The above proposal caused a massive loss of important information, and these worth mentioning. You know what? MarioWiki:Generic subjects is dumb, and IIRC, Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) tried to make a proposal not to include living, moving things, which i'd have supported. --A sprite of Mario from Super Mario World. FanOfMar10Block Super Mario World.png at 02:43, June 17, 2019 (EDT)
They don't exist outside the items that summon them, making them functionally the same as, say, the ghost of Zess T. that shows up when you use a Zess Dynamite. Niiue - Who has lost his tail? 03:03, June 17, 2019 (EDT)
What about the Super Mario RPG ones? --A sprite of Mario from Super Mario World. FanOfMar10Block Super Mario World.png at 03:19, June 17, 2019 (EDT)
Forgot to mention: The Super Mario RPG ones are just people who got turned into sheeps. --A sprite of Mario from Super Mario World. FanOfMar10Block Super Mario World.png at 10:23, June 18, 2019 (EDT)

Should pages that are not covered by this article link to this article?[edit]

A number of articles for topics that have sheep in them still link here, despite sheep content from those games being removed by a proposal above this section. (ex. Snooze Ewes, Falling Asheep) Should those links be removed? Salmancer (talk) 18:14, August 17, 2024 (EDT)

Help describing invisible walls in the Mushroom Kingdom[edit]

Block Super Mario World.png This talk page or section has a conflict or question that needs to be answered. Please try to help and resolve the issue by leaving a comment.

There are definitely some invisible walls exclusive to Sheep in the Mushroom Kingdom (Super Mario Odyssey). Only problem is, they're invisible and therefore really hard keep track of, let alone describe. (They could also exist on a per Sheep basis to ensure the player is moving toward the goal in the somewhat complex Mushroom Kingdom map, which makes the situation worse.) Could I have some help with this one? Salmancer (talk) 13:37, January 28, 2025 (EST)
