Talk:Seesaw
Teeter-totter notter?[edit]
The smaller, wooden variant of seesaw in Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's New Island seems to be its own thing. It's apparently modeled after a Japanese balance toy, and unlike seesaws, it can actually fall apart, making it more of a hazard. Split? LinkTheLefty (talk) 20:47, July 29, 2023 (EDT)
- Guess I was right to split them into "wobbling log" previously, pah. Guess The Story ones are normal since they don't fall? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:46, July 29, 2023 (EDT)
- Yep, those are indeed called シーソー / seesaws. LinkTheLefty (talk) 23:40, July 29, 2023 (EDT)
Split the small Yoshi's Island teeter-totter into its own article[edit]

As apparent in the above discussion and a cursory glance of this article, it is clear that the small wooden seesaw log in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's New Island is considered a separate object from the more recurring seesaw lift that also appears in those games. It is mechanically distinct too, as it slides off of the spire it sits on if Yoshi stands on one end for too long.
While a "seesaw" is a physical and mechanical sense, it is still it's own thing and I like giving objects recognized as distinct in name and function their own articles, especially if they are in the same game as the object they are being lumped with (in this case, the seesaw lift). I would like a split.
I offer three options.
- Support: split off the little log and name the article "teeter-totter"
- Support: split off the log and name the article "teeter-totter (Yoshi's Island series)"
- Oppose: keep them lumped in one article

Comments on the teeter-totter split[edit]
@FanOfYoshi we could split teeter-totter moon down the road, but that is less pressing to me at the moment. There aren't normal seesaw lifts in Super Mario Galaxy 2, so I don't think it's invalid to view the teeter-totter moon as that game's iteration of the seesaw lift, but still fundamentally the same type of object. That's not the case for the little log teeter-totters from Yoshi's Island. They are in the same game as normal seesaw lifts, and they uniquely fall off their spires if stood on for too long, so it is not really the same object or even the Yoshi's Island's iteration of a seesaw lift. - Nintendo101 (talk) 11:15, December 6, 2024 (EST)
I'm a little confused about the two support options. What are the reasons for deciding whether to have or not have an identifier? Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 19:01, December 8, 2024 (EST)
- There are normal seesaw lifts in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island that will remain on this page, and they are also referred to as "teeter-totters" in the game's material. "Teeter-totter (Yoshi's Island series)" at least denotes it is specific to those games and does not exist outside of them. - Nintendo101 (talk) 20:49, December 8, 2024 (EST)
- If both subjects appear in the Yoshi's Island series, it doesn't work as an identifier because it's not a distinguishing feature. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 03:25, December 9, 2024 (EST)
