Talk:ON/OFF Conveyor Belt
ON/OFF[edit]
Does the level editor for Mario Maker 2 not refer to them anything in particular? -- Lord G. matters. 20:11, January 19, 2020 (EST)
- No, it doesn't distinguish it with a different name from "Conveyor Belt" like certain other element variations in the game. Mario JC 20:49, January 19, 2020 (EST)
- Months later, but page 203 of the New Super Mario Bros. 2 Prima guide just refers to it as a "conveyor belt", page 201 Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros. groups it together with the regular conveyor belt (having the "ON/OFF" type as its second picture, though it does leave the switch separate), and it's internally the same beltconveyor object. - The Conveyor Belt's page has images of the ON/OFF Conveyor Belt. They're called "red and blue conveyor belts". --DarkNight 00:07, August 14, 2020 (EDT)
- Conveyor Belts that can switch direction also appear in Wario Land and Mario vs. Donkey Kong games. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:59, August 14, 2020 (EDT)

- As pointed out above, this is not the only game they appeared in. So no. Axis (talk) 08:54, July 22, 2023 (EDT)
- If it doesn't demand a merge, the article has to be renamed to something like "conveyor belt (ON/OFF)" regardless. LinkTheLefty (talk) 10:48, July 22, 2023 (EDT)
- The only other game its in also doesn't classify them uniquely though, otherwise the name wouldn't be conjectural. This article should either be merged into conveyor belts, or be renamed and expanded to include all instances of direction-switching conveyors.--PopitTart (talk) 17:10, October 31, 2023 (EDT)

This article doesn't make sense to me[edit]
ON/OFF Conveyor Belt covers an object that allegedly appears in two games. In New Super Mario Bros. 2, it's a conveyor belt that switches direction when a yellow switch is pressed. In Super Mario Maker 2, it's a conveyor belt that switches direction when an ON/OFF Switch is pressed. Why do these two things get a specific article? They are FAR from the only instances of direction-switching conveyor belts, Mario vs. Donkey Kong as a prime example. Why is it excluded? One of the two listed instances isn't controlled by ON/OFF Switch, so why is it even considered an ON/OFF Conveyor Belt?? I strongly feel like the article needs to be completely rewritten into a list of every direction-switching conveyor, or be merged into Conveyor Belt outright.--PopitTart (talk) 01:06, November 4, 2023 (EDT)
- Switching directions is kind of a given common feature for conveyor belts, so maybe this should just be merged to the conveyor belt article. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 01:30, November 4, 2023 (EDT)
Merge with Conveyor Belt, or expand to all switching conveyors[edit]

Merge all info into Conveyor Belt 8-0-0
I have already given my thoughts on this above, but to reiterate: This article covers the setting in Super Mario Maker 2 that causes Conveyor Belts to change directions based on the state of ON/OFF Switches, and some Conveyor Belts in one level of New Super Mario Bros. 2 which change direction when a "yellow switch" is hit. First of all, why is this subject being distinguished in the first place? As the conjecture notice implies, neither game gives these things a name distinct from Conveyor Belts. As far as SMM2 is concerned, this is exactly on par with the ON/OFF Switch controlled track junctions. Secondly, the conveyor belts in NSMB2... aren't controlled via ON/OFF Switch. Why is it here then?? If this article is supposed to note any conveyor belt which changes direction thanks to a switch, why is it called ON/OFF Conveyor Belt, and why isn't Mario vs. Donkey Kong here? Or Modern Mario Bros.? Conveyors that switch direction date all the way back to the original Donkey Kong.
I give two ways to resolve this.
Option 1: Merge all the info on this page into Conveyor Belt. Neither game distinguishes the subject, and doing this would be consistent with the many conveyor belts already on that page.
Option 2: Rename this page to "Reversible Conveyor Belt" and cover all instances of reversible conveyor belts. This would mean the page would cover all the above examples, as well as others such as Super Mario 64 and Wario Land: Shake It!.

Option 1: Merge all info into Conveyor Belt[edit]

- Rykitu (talk) Per proposal.
- EvieMaybe (talk) per ON/OFF proposal
- CyonOfGaia (talk) Per proposal. I honestly don't see why they'd be split in the first place, considering these act no different from the standard conveyor belts outside of being able to be controlled by external peripherals like the ON-OFF switches.
- Mario (talk) As the wise words of the plumber man has stated previously: switching directions is kind of a given common feature for conveyor belts.
- Sparks (talk) Per all.
Option 2: Rename and cover all direction-changing belts[edit]
Oppose: Keep ON/OFF Conveyor Belt as is[edit]
Comments on changing conveyors[edit]
Though I'm not supporting the option either way, I feel like "Conveyor Belt (reversible)" would be a better name than "Reversible Conveyor Belt" for the article resulting from option 2, since these things are always just called conveyor belts.
