Identifer[edit]

MarioWiki:Naming says this article needs an identifier too. Cliff here isn't winning the "I'm more prominent than the other Cliff" contest. The Cliff world has been in a game released three times and very bluntly referenced in a second game, it's far from lagging behind this cliff in appearances and significance. Cliff (platform) is probably the right call. Salmancer (talk) 18:43, December 4, 2024 (EST)

"Cliff" takes priority here because this subject is older than the one from Donkey Kong Kong Country Returns, which is outlined in our naming policies. I do not think an identifier is necessary. - Nintendo101 (talk) 19:19, December 4, 2024 (EST)
Wait, no. That's for "what is the name of this subject". I'm talking about, "two subjects are both called cliff", meaning the section Shared titles is what's being used. The "Shared titles" section does not have a clause for either of the two subjects being older than the other. If it did, Knuckles (Saturday Supercade) should beat out Knuckles for the title. Cannonball is the definitive "Cannonball" not because it's the first to bear the name. It's the one someone would most expect to see if they search for Cannonball, since cannonball is a word with real meaning and "Cannonballs" from normal cannons outnumber the other "cannonball-like" items named "cannonball". If age mattered for identifier placement, then Antechamber (Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon) should beat out Antechamber (Luigi's Mansion 3). Which is the example for this exact case of "about equal priority" Salmancer (talk) 19:47, December 4, 2024 (EST)
I had somehow came to the impression that age had some sort of baring on identifiers, and I was clearly mistaken. Sorry about that. Moving this subject to "cliff (platform)" should be fine, but I do not think the Donkey Kong Country Returns world should lose its identifier. My perspective may not be wholistic because I play the Super Mario platformers more regularly than the Donkey Kong Country ones, but this world has really only appeared in one game that has been rereleased a couple of times, which is not dissimilar from New Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Additionally, the Donkey Kong Country Returns world is also not a literal cliff. It is a world named after cliffs. The current subject of this article at least is what people would picture when they here the word "cliff," I think. - Nintendo101 (talk) 21:14, December 4, 2024 (EST)
I didn't mean the world would lose it's identifier either. They're both largely the same in significance. (The example case implies it really has to be one dwarfing the other.) It was more
  • Cliff, the disambiguation page
    • Cliff (platform), this page
    • Cliff (world), the DKCR (and loosely DKCRTF) page
(I probably should have used the list demonstration earlier to clear this up) Salmancer (talk) 14:08, December 6, 2024 (EST)
Thanks for the clarifications. I think that is all reasonable. - Nintendo101 (talk) 10:06, December 7, 2024 (EST)
