"Nintendo Switch Parental Controls – GameChat" is a two-minute video made to advertise and demonstrate the Nintendo Switch 2 GameChat-related features of the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls smartphone app. Similarly to "Nintendo Switch Parental Controls - Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017 Trailer", the video is themed mainly after the Super Mario franchise. The video was uploaded to YouTube on April 2, 2025, predating the console's release by almost two months.
Plot[edit]
Like its predecessor, the video features Bowser and Bowser Jr., the latter of whom is playing Super Mario Party Jamboree on his Nintendo Switch 2 while in a GameChat session with a Goomba, a Boo, and a Spike. Bowser then uses the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, as the narrator guides the viewer on how to use the app's GameChat-related features.
The first featured demonstrated is approving friends. Bowser Jr. tells Bowser about his friends, and Bowser grants permission to Bowser Jr. with the app to use GameChat with the Goomba. When Bowser shows Bowser Jr. his approval, the latter gets excited and hugs Bowser.
The second feature demonstrated is allowing video chat. Bowser Jr. sets up the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera for GameChat, and Bowser receives a notification on the app to allow Bowser Jr. to use video chat, which he approves. In the next scene, Bowser Jr. uses video chat to play Broozer Bash with his friends. Later on, to show the ability to not allow video chat, Bowser turns it off, which makes Bowser. Jr throw a tantrum before Bowser turns it back on, with the narrator remarking that Bowser Jr. got permission "as long as he promises to follow the rules."
The third feature demonstrated is GameChat history. Bowser is shown looking at the GameChat history of Bowser Jr. (which also includes a Koopa Troopa, a Shy Guy, and a Ninji), and nods with approval. In the final scene, Bowser Jr. is shown playing on his Nintendo Switch 2, while Bowser watches and laughs.
Notes[edit]
- In the video, Bowser Jr.'s friends are given notes in the app to describe who they are: "Soccer buddy" for the Goomba, "Shy classmate" for the Boo, "Transfer student" for the Spike, "Used to visit a lot" for the Koopa Troopa, "Quirky neighbor" for the Shy Guy, and "Always jumping" for the Ninji.
