Toys vs. Merchandise
I just took a stroll down the merchandise and toy pages, and all I can say is that I'm very confused. Could someone post a list of all the merchandise pages, because the link on the main page doesn't seem to connect them all together like the games link does. Maybe we could figure out a new organisation for these articles? Stumpers! 19:53, 20 June 2007 (EDT)
- Do you mean the list pages for Merchandise should be combined into one, like Games, and of a uniform way, not varied? Wa TC@Y 22:32, 20 June 2007 (EDT)
- Well, as long as there's some organisation to them, I'm fine. But, it would be nice if we could get a long list like the games section. But, then again, it might be obsessive. We could also just have a page with links to the 3+ pages there are. Give me a little while. I'll see what I can't do to help them out. Stumpers! 15:21, 21 June 2007 (EDT)
- I think a template would work better than a whole page linking too only three pages.Knife (talk) 15:29, 21 June 2007 (EDT)
- We need only links to the galleries. 3D, the way they are now... AAAAAH!

Big Eight
- I hate to repost this, but it was archived the day after it was posted, so we didn't get to discuss it at all. Don't blame me. ;)
Recently, a discussion has arrisen in regards to the future of the Big Eight page. Several users, including myself, see an issue with the amount of fanon in the category. Please view the talk page for individual ideas. Main concerns include the lack of any such category in the Marioverse and the level of favoritism involved in choosing characters. Another idea is that the Big Eight page would do better under the title MarioWiki:Big Eight as it is more of a guide for writers on the Wiki than an actual Mario element. Please post ideas for change or support for the page as is! Thank you! Stumpers! 13:52, 20 June 2007 (EDT)
Big Eight in, other related characters out. Just remove all of the closely related characters and keep the Big Eight in.Knife (talk) 21:37, 21 June 2007 (EDT)
Yeah, the closely related characters section was causing the most trouble... closely followed by the addition of Toad. My personal view is that it should be more of a guideline rather than a real article. I mean, the concept of these characters being the major players in the Mario series is definately there, it's just that character lists are never concrete from game to game. (except that Mario's always playable in the Mario series and so on :D) Regardless, here's my breakdown.
- Mario: In because he has his own series
- Luigi: In because of Mario & Luigi, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Bros. 2
- Peach: In because of Super Princess Peach and her major role
- Yoshi: In because Yoshies as a species have their own series and he is the "main" yoshi
- Toad: Possibly in b/c of Wario's Woods and SMB2, but could be removed.
- Wario: In because he has his own series
- DK: In because he has his own series
- Bowser: Main villain
So, really, the only change I could see making would be to remove Toad, but that doesn't seem fair since he is so... prevalent. And just darn cuuuuute! Stumpers! 00:06, 22 June 2007 (EDT)
Petey is about as prevalent as Toad nowadays. Plumber
Yeah, Toad being cute is a very good reason to keep him in :P. I'm now kinda indifferent on the matter (although I did create the Big Eight page, ironically). But if we make this a guideline, we'll have to make the other pages guidelines. Let us have a vote. Oh, since it's customary for votes to take effect a week after the poll has been started, voting will end on 6/29/06.Knife (talk) 14:30, 22 June 2007 (EDT) EDIT: See MarioWiki:Proposals.
Okay, so, for the change, we have the Big Eight, Filler Character, and maybe the Marioverse. Anything else? Stumpers! 18:26, 22 June 2007 (EDT)
"Main Page" Tab
Why doesn't the tab say "main page" anymore? --Steve (talk) 22:28, 21 June 2007 (EDT)

Staff Template
Someone has been adding a People Template to the Staff Pages. However, I thought that maybe a Staff Template would make more sense, as the People Template doesn't have links to the Staff Pages. So, what do you people think we should do, keep the People Template, or make a Staff Template? My Bloody Valentine
- The People template works for Staff (and links can be added easily), but I don't see any harm in a whole template for Staff. I think it sounds good. YELLOWYOSHI398
.ogg files are a bust
Those files for the music samples just won't play! I double-click on the file, and all I get is a window saying that it's an unknown file, and I can either find it (leading to a site I don't understand), or save it (eventually leading up to the same thing). There must be a better way to put these tunes on this site! Can anyone think of one?
Mr.Benio 22:02, 22 June 2007 (EDT)
- I believe I added a little "Having trouble playing" interwiki link at the bottom of the media template, which will lead to a Wikipedia help page. I suggest installing Media Player Classic. I believe the link also explains the copyright issues: .ogg is the only form w/o infringement risks, unlike .mp3. Wa TC@Y 22:11, 22 June 2007 (EDT)
To Wayoshi: Well, I managed to download Media Player Classic. v6.4.9.0 even. IT STILL DIDDN'T WORK! I still can't get those .ogg music up and running! I still end up with windows saying they can't find the file! What an I doing wrong?!?!
Mr.Benio 09:48, 23 June 2007 (EDT)
- Go to illiminable.com.
- Click on "Download Now" at the right hand side of the page. Or directly here: oggcodecs 0.71.0946
- Wait for the setup program to download. This should take less than 2 minutes on a 56k modem.
- Once downloading has finished, run the setup program and follow the instructions on screen.
- When the Setup Wizard finishes, your DirectShow player should now be able to play Ogg audio and video.
- If Windows does not automatically associate the file type with your favorite program, all you have to do is to drag/drop the file into it, or force the program to be associated with the .ogg file.
- I quote this from Wikipedia:Media help (Ogg) – you need to install a "codec" to make Classic ogg-compatible (it is a type of DirectShow). Wa TC@Y 10:55, 23 June 2007 (EDT)
To Wayoshi: Okay, buddy. I was able to install the program from illiminable, and a codec from Xvid in order to get the blasted .ogg programs running. IT STILL DOESN'T WORK! I'm still stuck with the daja vu window! Surely you have some better ideas, like having the site accept .wav files? Beacause I managed to record a few tunes from Mario Kart DS straight from my DS, and have saved them on our computer's Sound Recorder program, AND is making them sound like their on a CD player! If I can just get these on here, I might be willing to record more tunes for you guys, so help me out man! Mr.Benio 20:20, 23 June 2007 (EDT)
To anybody: okay, will somebody help me out with this? I'm getting more tunes on the computer, and not able to put them on the internet. I really want to get these on here for you guys to listen to. Mr.Benio 11:18, 24 June 2007 (EDT)
That does it. I give up! This thing just ain't worth it anymore. I'm going back to making my first game. If you guys want, I can show you my completed levels so far. Until then, .ogg files are a bust!! Mr.Benio 11:52, 24 June 2007 (EDT)
- We cannot risk any copyright issues by allowing anything other than .ogg. Wa TC@Y 12:23, 24 June 2007 (EDT)
Console Gallery
I had an idea for the Console Pages. We could put a Gallery of all the games' Box Art onto a Consoles page. Example: On the Nintendo Gamecube Page, we could have a Gallery containing the Box Art to all of the Mario-Based Gamecube Games. What do you think? My Bloody Valentine

I just wanted to remind everyone that today is the official North American release for Pokemon Battle Revolution, which makes today the official first day of the Wii online game program. If you feel up to it, we should update the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection articles accordingly. Stumpers! 17:43, 25 June 2007 (EDT)
Eh? Battle Revolution is out already? I need to get it, then. 18:14, 25 June 2007 (EDT)
- According to IGN.com. But, the dates they give are for when Nintendo lifts the sales embargoes, or whatever they call them. The games start selling one to two or three days later. Usually 2 for Best Buy, I think. Stumpers! 22:02, 25 June 2007 (EDT)
Edit Count
I have this user box on my page. I can't figure out what I'm doing that is making it not give me my edit count, though. Any ideas?
The code is: {{userbox|border=black|mainbkgd=#CCCCCC|codebkgd=black|codecolor=white|code='''[{{#ec:Stumpers}}]'''|msg=This user has more article edits than your great, great grandma on the Super Mario Wiki.}}

Aftermath, Resignation, Upcoming
Well, I guess a list of truths is most appropriate in this situation. Here, I list what went on with me the last while:
- I was the Willy that was perverted to Beanbean in chat and vandalized the Main Page by hacking Hk's account, no other Willy. I never sockpuppeted.
- I was aware Kyle was onto me after he left, and then I stopped those particular Willy attacks.
- I have a mild form of autism (not Asperger's) that impairs my social life, behavior (stimming), and sometimes causes excessive anger & want to hurt people or things. This is my one form of society I have in my life right now, and...
- As a result of the above I ruined my role in this society & abused my powers I had worked up for.
Simply put, I "screwed up". That want to fool around with people, even though they did nothing wrong, came, and I couldn't help but "change" Willy's personality a bit. No, a lot. I made little mistakes here and there, including when I woke up on Memorial Day to find that my sub-name on chat was still "Willy" on ChatZilla after a round of spamming, a new feature on our normal chatroom. I stopped, and I thought I had escaped unharmed. But, I yet again could not control myself: now on my normal account. Yesterday, I spilled over completely, saying things I told myself I wouldn't, and of course, that leads to today, a sad day of truth, anger, and instability on this wiki. Yet, before, out of a good 35-50 active members, only Kyle noticed and realized what was going on. I still find it amazing that none of you could put the pieces together. If Kyle were more active again, I would recommend him as my replacement.
Yep, as you are reading this message, I am now a normal user: not a patroller, a sysop or a "bearocrat" (it's bureau-crat). I have no more Level 190 powers on chat. I am a normal user on the forum. You're reading the text of most tumultuous user on this wiki right now. Am I going to miss administrating this place? Of course. MediaWiki syntax and its system is right up my power ally: I know the normal functions front and back, left and right. The same to CSS styles. Should an autistic young man who is prone to anger attacks and want to mess up people, however, command this wiki's direction? The answer's obvious, and I'm making the right decision before I let myself mess up the wiki instead of the chat.
Am I leaving the wiki? No. Even after all of this pain, deceit, and cruelty, quite a few of you still respect me and implore that I continue my tenure here. You should really see Xzelion as an example – I was shocked when he offered to lie last night by saying I had a different address earlier. "We need you here, this wiki will die without you." That may be a little too much, but I've heard many others saying I better not leave, not just Mr. X. Additionally, this wiki has become my daily joy: I still can have lots of fun editing for once and not being a sometimes "crabby" (taken from Max :P) bureaucrat administrating and following strictly to the rules.
I am hoping dearly that I stop my rages and this ends as of today. If I can't stop them, I will probably force myself to leave permanently for the good of the community. No, I don't need a doctor to stop, I just need to notice when it's about to start and get away from the comp for awhile. Five people in particular I want to apologize to (you can take this as a screw-you courtesy or as a true message of apology, I'm fine with both): Kyle for driving him away with my behavior (why didn't you speak up!!), Paper Jorge for driving him away on AIM, Beanbean for harrassing you excessively, HK-47 for my most recent fits of annoyance towards you, comrade, and Max for unfair treatment at times to you.
Hate me, love me or just in the middle, I'm still sticking around, so you have to live with me one way or the other. I'll still be in chat, and I'm always available for coding help (tables are a big problem with newbies, I heard). I doubt I will get the chance or the public opinion to be even a sysop again. And I am still planning the awards and might pass on Shroom director duties to another qualified.
Hoping to be your friend again, truly, Wa TC@Y. Comments may be put in a scroll box if excessive. 18:36, 26 June 2007 (EDT)

Come on guys, isn't being demoted punishment enough? The point of punishment is to make sure the person never does something like that again and realize his mistake. Oh my gosh. That was completely surprising. Wow. You really had me fooled... I had you pegged as some normal, maybe kind of nerdy, but mostly gentle kid. Yowzer. All right, I want you to know something. I know someone with autism and someone with Asperger's, and they are the coolest people you would hope to know. One is my best friend. In any case, I'm really sorry to hear about your condition... man, I swear, if I knew you in person you'd be getting a hug right now. I'm so sorry. Anyway, you had me completely fooled if that helps. I thought you were probably a college-age person for goodness sake. I don't know much about this, but I hope you can work through it. I'll pray for you. It's a really good point, actually. I don't really get how normal users get to change it anyway... seeing as we can't vote "yes" or whatever... I'm so confused!!!) but it seems like you could just run it manually for now. You want to repost the proposal post for us and maybe we could put together a little page sometime this week to get an FA chosen? Stumpers! 13:50, 27 June 2007 (EDT)
I only influenced them cancelled because they were being used to boost egos, not as a hard-to-achieve award for the article. It was mostly the fault of sysops, however, who closed the FACs based on how many people wanted it featured versus WHY it should be featured. - A Link to the Past 20:58, 27 June 2007 (EDT)
I don't think it's worth getting in a tizzy about, both sides had merit. What we're stuck with though is a situation that requires multiple attempts to find a solution. Let's just see if letting the sysops and other admins choose the articles works. We're a small Wiki, so criticising an article takes more... daring, I think the word is. During my bureaucrat-term, when I was not a perverted lunatic, I went over each sysop's credentials for another possible bureaucrat. It's not much in my wiki document on my comp, but here's the list (active):
- Ghost Jam – great cleanup man, unfortunately doesn't have the active time required
- Great Gonzo – excellent cleanup man & maintainer, knows syntax fairly well, very active and well-received in the community and knows users extremely well [now Xzelion]
- KPH2293 – excellent cleanup man, knows syntax, patrols recent changes when he's on, knows active users inside & out
- Monty Mole – good writer, is active in community, does some cleanup, as of late slightly inactive when compared to other sysops [now Phoenix Writer])
- RAP – excellent maintainer, esp. with images early on, active, keeps conversation going in chat at times, friendly, good writer & list updater
- Sir Grodus – holds most edits as shown by EditCount, great writer, however doesn't use sysop powers to the max (doesn't cleanup often)
- Son of Suns – excellent writer, friendly, works with users nicely, holds long-term goals for this wiki [sadly this is now all moot]
I bolded the best candidates. Look up at the discussion above, and you know what should happen in the near future. Don't take any criticism the wrong way – I mean no harm by it. Even better, improve on your weak points. Sysops are supposed to match all of the requirements listed on Section 1.6 of MarioWiki:FAQ, but many are lacking in a few areas, especially #3. I cite Xzelion as meeting all 10 of those. Wa TC@Y 12:50, 2 July 2007 (EDT)
