- “Hum Gree can eat and eat and eat, but it's never enough! Something inside him always wants more!”
- —Red, WarioWare Gold
Dark Lord Hum Gree (sometimes referred to as simply Hum Gree) is a giant blue demon in a black robe who appears in Ashley & Red's stage in WarioWare Gold. His name is a pun on "hungry". He is famous in the demon realms for eating obsessively, an action he is unable to stop doing no matter how much he eats. As such, his mouth is always open, and even his uvula has a face that can eat food. This fame does not appear to extend to the rest of the world, as Ashley is unaware of Hum Gree.
In the intro to Ashley & Red's stage, Gahrumble complains that he is starving because of Hum Gree. Ashley goes to the demon realms to fight Hum Gree for Gahrumble's sake. In the stage, Hum Gree arriving from the right side of the screen represents the boss stage. He is shown in silhouette, but switches to full color during the animation. The spell Ashley uses to defeat him is represented by her Boss Game, Crossing Guard. After it ends, Hum Gree leaves off the right side of the screen. If the player wins in Crossing Guard, Hum Gree sweats. This makes the animation convey "fleeing" instead of "leaving".
In the conclusion to Ashley & Red's stage, Ashley's spell is shown to have completely transformed Hum Gree. He becomes a apricot demon in a white plush-like robe. His mouth is closed now, and he is smiling. Red describes him as only craving "a big ol' hug" now. This resolves whatever Hum Gree was doing to cause Gahrumble to starve.
Appearance[edit]
Hum Gree wears a black robe and has a blue face with two orange horns on his head, as well as red eyes, six arms, and a crown. He also has a huge mouth with a green tongue, and his true face on his uvula.
In the conclusion to Ashley & Red's stage, his appearance changes significantly. He now has a white robe, pink hair, blush, spiraling, ram-like horns, and light skin.
