Pushmo, known as Pullblox in Europe and Australia and Hikuosu in Japan, is a series of games developed by Intelligent Systems and released by Nintendo on the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. The series stars Mallo as he rescues characters that become stuck within block-shaped structures by pushing or pulling blocks.

All games in the series feature multiple puzzles relating to the Super Mario franchise. A Mystery Mushroom costume of Mallo appears in Super Mario Maker, while a microgame based on the series is included in WarioWare Gold.

Overview[edit]

The series revolves around solving puzzles made of blocky structures, which have different names depending on the game: "Pushmo" in Pushmo and Pushmo World, "Crashmo" in Crashmo, and "Stretchmo" in Stretchmo. The player can solve these puzzles by pushing and pulling or stretching the blocks to create platforms to climb the structures, most of the time for the purpose of rescuing a character. All games are set in different parks, named after the type of puzzle.

Prominent crossover elements[edit]

Characters[edit]

Mallo[edit]

Mallo is the main playable character of the Pushmo series. He is a round creature based on sumo wrestlers who wears red clothing. He is often tasked in the series to rescue characters who become stuck within the puzzles. In Pushmo and Pushmo World, he helps Papa Blox, the creator of the Pushmos, in rescuing children stuck in Pushmos in Pushmo Park. In Crashmo, he rescues Poppy's (Papa Blox's grandniece) birds from Crashmos in Crashmo Park. In the Mallo's Playtime Plaza mode of Stretchmo, he rescues children again, this time from the Strechmos of Stretchmo Park.

Mallo appears in the Super Mario franchise as a Mystery Mushroom costume in Super Mario Maker. He has also appeared in the Super Smash Bros. series as a trophy and spirit.

A Mystery Mushroom costume of Mallo was added to Super Mario Maker in the version 1.40 update. It is unlocked by clearing 100 Mario Challenge on the Super Expert difficulty. All of the costume's sound effects are taken from Pushmo.

WarioWare Gold[edit]

WarioWare Gold includes a microgame based on Pushmo, simply entitled Pushmo, which has Mallo climb to the Goal Flag of a randomly selected Pushmo without being able to pull or push blocks on his own.
