They are supposedly a part of the "Chomp Police". This seems to be a self-promoted position since the other underwater creatures dislike them.

Chomps appear in the fourth chapter of the first volume of the ''[[Uho'uho Donkey-kun]]'' manga, where they are under the command of [[King K. Rool]]. Their appearance is different from that in the games, as they have no stripes. K. Rool rides one to discreetly follow Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong as they search for an underwater treasure. When they finally reach it, he reveals his presence and summons his army to defeat the Kongs and seize the treasure, including Chomps.

Chomps are obstacles in ''[[Donkey Kong Barrel Blast]]''. They are encountered in the underwater sections of [[Salty Sea (race course)|Salty Sea]], [[Shimmering Sea]], and [[Open Ocean]]. Chomps are much bigger, though they can still be defeated from one hit. Electrified Chomps also appear on Open Ocean. Like normal Chomps, they can be defeated in one hit, but the Chomps will also electrocute a racer and make them lose their speed, unless the racer attacked it while invincible.
