Beach Volley Folly is an Extra Room minigame in Mario Party 4. It also appears as a Special minigame in Mario Party: The Top 100 and as a Sports & Puzzles minigame in Mario Party Superstars.
Beach Volley Folly is a one- or two-player Extra Room minigame in Mario Party 4 and a Bonus minigame in Mario Party 5 (where it is known as Beach Volleyball). In Mario Party 4, if the player selects the Ztar, they get to play this minigame. The Mario Party 4 version of the minigame is also included as a Special minigame in Mario Party: The Top 100 as well as in Mario Party Superstars.

Overview
Setting
The game takes place on a beach with red and blue umbrellas, a yellow-and-green umbrella at the bottom left corner, and red and blue fences with several Super Stars on them. There is also a restaurant at the top left corner called Kinopio Burger (Mario Party 4) or Kinopio Cafe (Mario Party 5). During the introduction, the camera takes a view of the Goomba as a lifeguard sitting on his stool and the sun, then zooms out to reveal the two teams that are on each side of the volleyball net.
The minigame is selectable in Mario Party 4 by choosing the Ztar in the Extra Room, which can be done once every other Extra Room minigame has been unlocked. Its equivalent in Mario Party 5 is titled Beach Volleyball.

Gameplay
The game pits two teams of two against each other in a beach volleyball match. The player(s) must work their way to the top, facing six other teams along the way. In Mario Party 4, if Battle Mode is completed, Free Mode is unlocked, allowing up to four players to play together. The Birthday Cake is also unlocked and placed in the Minigame Room of the Present Room.

In Mario Party 5, Mamar hosts the minigame and describes it as "Bump, set... Bob-omb!" This version of the game features different types of volleyballs for the players to use:

*A normal volleyball
*A Dice Ball
*A Bob-omb Ball

In the Mario Party 4 version, the game ends when one side reaches five points. The player can also choose between 10–20 points in the Mario Party 5 version of this game and 7–21 points in The Top 100 version.

In Mario Party 4, the normal cast of characters is playable alongside characters exclusive to this mode. The exclusive playable characters in Beach Volley Folly are Toad, Koopa Troopa, Shy Guy, Boo, Bowser, and Koopa Kid. They are unlockable characters and are usable only in Free Mode.

In later variations of Beach Volley Folly, only the playable cast of characters in those respective Mario Party games is usable. For characters that were not playable in Mario Party 4 in Party Mode but playable in Mario Party 5, they have unique winning and losing poses as well as voices compared to in both games.

Both players on each team compete in a beach volleyball match. Besides the main playable cast, the Mario Party 4 version also has some additional player characters in Free Mode, including Toad, Koopa Troopa, Shy Guy, Boo, Bowser, and Koopa Kid. The Battle Mode features six teams to compete against, each during a separate match. Completing Battle Mode also unlocks Free Mode, supporting up to four players, as well as a birthday cake in the Present Room. The side that earns five points first wins. In later versions of the minigame, the setting can also be changed to either 7, 14, or 21 points.

Notes
Trivia
*At the top left is a restaurant titled Kinopio Burger, supposedly the setting of the minigame Order Up because "Kinopio Burger" is its Japanese title.
*If Boo, Toad, or Koopa Kid loses the minigame in Mario Party 5, he makes his voice as if the minigame ended in a draw. This trait does not apply to the characters that are playable in Mario Party 4; they simply do not make any sounds.
