Banandelions first appear in ''Donkey Kong Jungle Beat'', where they are usually found in grass-themed [[level]]s. [[Donkey Kong]] can cling to one by [[clap]]ping near it. Pounding on the [[bongo]]s, alternating between the two drums, or flicking the control stick causes Donkey Kong to swing along the stem toward the top, and at the top the flower automatically flings Donkey Kong in the opposite direction. The flower portion has numerous designs depending on the specific plant, appearing in different shapes and colors and sometimes being just a bud. Sometimes, the length of the stalk varies as well.

Banandelions reappear in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'' with a consistent lavender design. When Mario [[spin]]s next to one, he automatically grabs on to it, much like he would with a [[Sproutle Vine]]. He can also grab on to a Banandelion by simply [[jump]]ing toward its long stem. Once [[Mario]] has grabbed on to one, he must spin repeatedly, which causes him to gradually travel farther up the long stem of the flower. When he gets to the end of the flower, it flings him through the air to another area. The flower itself is usually curved to the side in a particular direction. This indicates the location of the area that it flings Mario to when he spins next to it, as it is always curved away from the area that it flings Mario to. 

Banandelions are first seen in the missions [[Bee Mario Takes Flight]] and [[Big Bad Bugaboom]] of the [[Honeyhive Galaxy]]. In the former, the player encounters two Banandelions on the [[Honeyhive Galaxy#Flower Planet|flower planet]], and they must be used so that Mario can successfully reach one of several spinning flower platforms floating just above the planet's surface and subsequently progress through the level. In the latter, the player must make their way to the [[Honeyhive Galaxy#Bugaboom Planet|Bugaboom Planet]] by using Banandelions found on two small platforms next to the planet. Several Banandelions are also positioned at various intervals around the perimeter of the Bugaboom Planet, and they can be used to fling Mario into the air to attack [[Bugaboom]] as the battle progresses. A Banandelion also appears in the [[Gold Leaf Galaxy]] in the mission [[Star Bunnies on the Hunt]]. The player must use this Banandelion to access part of the [[Gold Leaf Galaxy#Starting Planet|starting planet]] that is normally inaccessible without it in order to collect all five blue [[Star Chip]]s and continue through the mission.

Banandelions are interactable objects in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy 2]]'', retaining their main functionality from the first ''Super Mario Galaxy''. Banandelions are first encountered in [[Rightside Down Galaxy]] in the missions [[Breaking the Laws of Gravity]] and [[The Great Crate Incinerator]], where Banandelions have to be used in certain areas to fling Mario to different locations with varying directions of [[gravity]]. Two Banandelions are last seen in [[Honeyhop Galaxy]], where one appears on the [[Honeyhop Galaxy#Starting Planet|Starting Planet]] and another on the [[Honeyhop Galaxy#Queen Bee Planet|Queen Bee Planet]]; on both planets, Mario uses them to reach high areas that are inaccessible otherwise.
