Green Yoshi
Green Yoshis are the primary skin color for the Yoshis. In Super Mario World, they have all the powers from eating Koopa shells. If they eat a blue Koopa shell they get wings, if they eat a red shell they can spit Fireballs, and if they eat a yellow shell they become very heavy. Although they can gain shell powers, they cannot get extra powers. In Yoshi's Story, its favorite fruit is Watermelon. The character Yoshi is a green Yoshi.
In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, one is playable on every World's 1st level, and King Bowser's Castle in World 6, although in all other worlds, Blue Yoshi is playable on the final level. Green Yoshi is also playable in every Secret and Extra level in the game. This Yoshi seems to be the character Yoshi.
In Super Mario Sunshine, the Yoshis start out as green but change to a different color once they eat a Fruit upon hatching. They also turn green if they are about to die from not eating another Fruit for a long time or drowning in water. While green, Yoshis spit water instead of juice.
In Mario Power Tennis, Yoshi is playable. Although green is the default color, there is an option to switch colors. Once the player wins the Flower Cup in doubles mode with any character, Yoshi will randomly change his color whenever he performs a Rolling Egg Return.
The Green Yoshi will be appearing in the upcoming title, New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It'll likely maintain its abilities from Super Mario World.
Although no Yoshis actually appeared in Super Mario Galaxy, the Green Yoshi has been confirmed to appear in that game's sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Appearance
In Super Mario World, Green Yoshi had green skin, but orange gloves, brown shoes and a brown saddle.
In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Green Yoshi looked about the same as he did in Super Mario World, but with orange shoes and an orange saddle. He also doesn't wear his orange gloves, and instead he had bare green arms. However in the Game Boy Advance port, Green Yoshi wore red shoes and no gloves.
From Yoshi's Story on, Green Yoshi had red shoes and a red saddle, with the exception of Super Mario 64 DS, where they were orange again.
