Template:Infobox Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the upcoming sequel to Super Mario Galaxy announced for the Wii, which will be released in 2010[1]. The sequel uses lots of elements from its predecessor, such as Launch Stars, the Bee Suit and the gravity elements, but also has new elements such as Yoshi, last seen in Super Mario Sunshine. The music heard during the trailer is a remix of tunes found in the original. According to Miyamoto, the game will be released in 2010 as a response to New Super Mario Bros. Wii, coming at the end of the year in 2009. He also states that the game contains 90% of new worlds which the plumber will explore in this edition, while the rest belongs to some levels seen in the original Mario Galaxy, with different objectives[2].

Story

Nothing has been revealed yet, but an ice statue of Bowser appears as well as airships coming out of a warp. Mario is also seen fighting a robot resembling Megaleg. Mario is also seen fleeing from a giant one-eyed snowball/rocklike creature and a giant, rolling, red eyed chomp head.

In an interview, Shigeru Miyamoto stated that he would like to go with as little story as possible for Super Mario Galaxy 2.[3]

Gameplay Elements

Gameplay is similar to Super Mario Galaxy, with a focus on platforming based on and around 3D planets of varying sizes and landscapes. Power-ups such as the Bee Suit will be making a return, along with various enemies and Airships, Launch Stars for interplanetary navigation, a Luma and the Star Spin. Also, there seems to be the returning "Dark Matter" which makes up Dark Marios and is seen as a portal in which Airships come out of. 2D stages featured in Super Mario Galaxy are also included in Super Mario Galaxy 2, which also introduces many new features.

Mario has been seen sliding down a ramp, swimming underwater, picking up a drill, hitting switches that solidify water, hitting switches that briefly slow down time and turn everything Black-And-White, and rolling a giant snowball. In a Purple Coin stage, Mario is seen alongside many dark Marios who follow everything he does. There is also a Galaxy in which some planets are in the forms of percussion instruments.

One of the biggest changes in Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the inclusion of Yoshi. Mario will find Yoshi in an egg, which he has to simply crack to open. Yoshi will change colors when eating a power-up (supposedly fruit); an Orange Yoshi can run very fast, while a Light Blue Yoshi gets inflated and floats upwards like the Bee Suit. When controlling Yoshi, the player's Wii Remote cursor is the target for Yoshi's tongue. Doing this he can swallow enemies and swing with special flowers
