Overview[edit]

Bob-omb Derby takes place at Mario Stadium during the night. The player bats ten Bob-ombs shot from a pitching machine (resembling F.L.U.D.D. in the Mario Superstar Baseball iteration), trying to score over 1,000 points on Easy difficulty, 2,000 on Normal, and 3,000 on Hard. Each turn begins with a roulette stopping on an icon, usually determining the speed: a Mushroom means the Bob-omb is shot slowly; a Fire Flower means it is at average speed; a Star means it is relatively fast; a Fireball means it goes very fast; a King Bob-omb launches one out instead of a Bob-omb; and a Question Mark shoots a Bob-omb at a random speed. If the player hits the Bob-omb with enough force, they get a home run and score points, though it is possible to get a foul. Any Bob-omb hit in succession results in a Combo, earning the player more points.

Bob-omb Derby is playable in multiplayer and Grand Prix mode in Mario Super Sluggers. Another difference is a roulette can land an icon of the player character, giving them a chance to stop an opposing player's Bob-omb from exploding, earning them points instead, though it is possible for all opponents to do so, or none if it is an "X."
