World 2-1 (Chapter 2-1 in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic; titled A Desert Expedition[1] or Enter the World of Deserts![2]) is the first level of World 2 in Super Mario Bros. 2.

In Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition completing the first section of this level as Toad is the goal of the Hard-difficulty challenge Desert Dash.

Layout

This level is divided into two segments. In the first, the chosen character has to walk through the desert as they avoid traps like quicksand and enemies like Cobrats, Shyguys and a Panser. There are also two jars and a Magic Potion. In both jars, there is a Snifit and a Red Shell. In the pyramid, the character has to dig through soft sand until reaching the bottom while avoiding Shyguys and Snifits. Pink Birdo is fought in a chamber full of chasms.

The following items can be collected in Super Mario Advance only:

Ace Coins
  1. Above the first bones, right before the first jar.
  2. Above the cactus and right before the Panser.
  3. In between the two cacti in the quicksand right before the pyramid.
  4. On the right side of the screen when the player starts digging.
  5. Below the fourth coin and to the left.
Yoshi Eggs
  • The first egg is falling in the very start of the quicksand.
  • The second egg is right where the red Panser is.
