Talk:List of references in the Super Mario franchise
Hang on a minute... There's already a Cameos article similar to this, so this is pretty much a duplicate. I think this should be deleted (and at least have some info from here that isn't in the original to be merged). Mario JC
When I created this page I wasn't aware that the cameos page existed but if it comes down to a choice between the articles I think that this article has the most relevant title.

Mario TV Epidodes
Many Mario episodes of the old TV shows were based on movies, such as Star Wars and Robocop, with a Ghostbusters crossover. Why can't they be mentioned?

- Basically, 2/3 episodes of every cartoon series are based onnce wh old film hits like Star Wars, I suppose it's because of that. TSUNAMI
Intentional or Not?
I don't know if it's intentional or not, but the tune that plays when a player ranks out in Super Mario Kart sounds exactly like a segment from Julius Fučík's "Entry of the Gladiators". If so, can we list it as a reference? Super Mario Kart - Ranked Out and Julius Fučík's "Entry of the Gladiators" Torey (talk) 04:16, 11 March 2018 (EDT)
- That's definitely intentional; "Entry of the Gladiators" is a famous song. It's already listed, though it said it only "sounds similar" to the song before I fixed it. Mario JC 05:19, 11 March 2018 (EDT)
In the original Donkey Kong, it sounds like the music that plays when Donkey Kong is climbing to the top of the construction site with Pauline was inspired by the beginning portion of the theme song of "Dragnet". Just listen to it, and tell me what you think. Torey (talk) 21:18, 11 April 2018 (EDT)

- Don't bump. This is not a forum. I still have topics that haven't been answered in half a year, you can be patient. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 06:21, 12 April 2018 (EDT)
- It's an iconic tune that's also made its way to a number of other games, too, so I'd say so. Mario JC 07:01, 12 April 2018 (EDT)
Commercials?
Is it okay to state that the opening song from the only known Mario Bros. Atari 2600 commercial is a direct parody of the theme song from Car 54, Where Are You?? (T|C) 15:45, March 27, 2019 (EDT)
Rewrite template
About the template for a rewrite: I don't think the article has to be rewritten, per se, but rather that speculation should be labeled as such (for example, "House of Boos from Mario Party: Star Rush is directly based on the Pac-Man arcade game" is speculation and should be labeled as it, while "The music that plays when the player begins Phase 1 is Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik" is not speculation and should be kept as is). Expand
Joe wants me to do something that's out of my reach, so someone please add the references in the third Donkey Konga game. Lord Falafel (talk) 02:03, September 20, 2019 (EDT)
Second Doraemon Reference
In the Super Mari-Old story, Dr. Mario uses a time machine to go back to the future, which is essentially Doraemon's time machine.

Last year, around when we were renaming the Mario franchise to the Super Mario franchise, all the "List of Mario references" pages had their titles shortened to just "List of references". I guess this was done so that their names didn't become overly long, and because specifying that the references are to the Super Mario franchise isn't necessary as that would be expected due to this being the Super Mario Wiki. However, that caused a bit of a problem with this particular page, the "List of references in the Mario franchise". Unlike the other lists, this one isn't about references to the franchise in external sources, it's about references in the franchise to external sources. The page name was changed to "List of references and parodies", which is a very misleading page title - the titles of the other reference lists would lead you to believe that this one is also about references to the franchise rather than references within it. The somewhat redundant "and parodies" was added to distinguish the page from the List of references disambiguation, implying that the inclusion of "parodies" is what distinguishes this page when that's not the case at all. Plenty of references both in and to the franchise could likely be described as "parodies", so it's unhelpful at actually communicating what the page is about.
In short, our current arrangement, where the thing actually distinguishing "List of references and parodies" from "List of references" has nothing to do with the inclusion of "parodies" and could only be figured out by first looking at the articles themselves, is confusing and unhelpful. So, I propose we move this page to "List of references in the Super Mario franchise". This distinguishes the page from the other reference lists in a more logical and accurate way, and still isn't too overly long.
